Senior Research Manager BBC Media Action

BBC Media Action, the BBC's international development charity, believes in the power of media and communication to help reduce poverty and support people in claiming their rights. Our aim is to inform, connect and empower people around the world, and audience is at the heart of all we do. Our Research and Learning Group (R&L), based in London and in each of our country offices, provides research and evaluation to support the development and impact assessment of media development and communication for development projects. As a Senior Research Manager, based in London, you will lead a programme of research to ensure that our work in health, governance and resilience is built on insights from our research and engagement with communities.

Role
As Senior Research Manager, based in London, you will oversee a programme of work in 5-8 countries in Africa or Asia, Middle East and Europe. You'll also manage 3-4 Research Managers who are responsible for delivering the work in each country. Therefore, you'll be ensuring quality and rigour in the planning, resourcing, implementation, reporting and dissemination of research across their regional programme. Also, as part of our Research and Learning Group's management team, you'll contribute to development of our Group's strategy, business development, resource management and recruitment. The salary for this role will be from £38,419 per annum and will involve international travel.

Requirements
You will bring strong project and programme management skills, including planning, budget and resource management. Your experience of managing staff, providing technical research oversight and personal development, will be essential, as will a focus on developing international research capacity. With previous experience of managing fieldwork and adapting methods to challenging and constrained conditions, you'll bring strong qualitative and quantitative research skills, knowing how to apply them to media and/or development projects. In particular, you will have strong SPSS data analysis skills, including multivariate and segmentation techniques, as well as strong qualitative analysis skills. You'll also be adept at interpreting research findings to provide actionable recommendations for diverse audiences.
