ACCORD Coordinator & Senior Programme Officer

The African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD) is a South African-based civil society institution working throughout Africa to bring creative African solutions to the challenges posed by conflict on the continent. ACCORD’s primary aim is to influence political developments by bringing conflict resolution, dialogue and institutional development to the forefront as an alternative to armed violence and protracted conflict. ACCORD specialises in conflict management, analysis and prevention and intervenes in conflicts through mediation, negotiation, training, research and conflict analysis.

ACCORD is recruiting for the following positions to be based in its Head Office in Durban, South Africa

Coordinator, Peacemaking Unit
Reference: PMU-COR-ACCORD

Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Interventions Department Manager, the Coordinator will lead the strategic and substantive coordination of all initiatives in the Peacemaking Unit. The specific tasks include, but are not limited to, leading the strategic planning and operational design for the Unit, Designing and fundraising for Peacemaking interventions; managing the implementation of activities against the operational plan; Preparation and monitoring of annual budgets for the Unit and Liaison and correspondence with key stakeholders.

Requirements: The Coordinator must be in possession of an advanced graduate degree (Masters) in International Relations with Peace and Security Specialisation or Conflict Resolution. S/he will have between 5-7 years operation and programme management experience in peacemaking/mediation/conflict prevention field with at least 2-3 years management experience. S/he will possess substantive knowledge in peacemaking in Africa that integrates policy, practice and research and addresses emerging issues in peace and security. Fluency in English and French is essential.

Senior Programme Officer: Peacemaking Unit
Reference: PMU-SPO-ACCORD

Key Responsibilities: The Senior Programme Officer will report to the Coordinator of the Peacemaking Unit. S/he will be responsible for the development of a detailed implementation plan for programmes in the Peacemaking Unit and the execution of the strategic direction of the Peacemaking Unit. The Senior Programme Officer will be responsible for; Compiling written reports on activities and written submissions for internal and external (donor) reports; Following the field and academic debates linked to core activities of the Unit; Establishing networks for the Unit with partners nationally, regionally and continentally and the administrative management of the Unit on a day-to-day basis.

Requirements: The Senior Programme Officer must be in possession of a post graduate degree (Masters) in International Relations Peace and Security, Conflict Resolution or related field. S/he will have between 3-5 years operational and programme management experience in an NGO environment and must have strong oral and written communication skills. Previous experience in training or skills as a facilitator will be an advantage as well as fluency in French. The Senior Programme Officer must also have an understanding of peace and security issues in Africa. Experience in maintaining administrative and financial systems will be an advantage.
