DIRECTOR OF ROTH CENTER FOR SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE

This full-time position is responsible for managing all aspects of the Roth Center for Sustainable Agriculture. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to providing leadership to the Center to accomplish production, education, and research objectives established by the College; coordinating the DVC/Rodale Veterans Organic Certification Initiative; building partnerships with a wide array of agricultural, environmental, and related organizations to facilitate coordination of education activities; assisting the NRBM Department, faculty and staff developing annual and long-range plans and goals for the Center to ensure coordination of sustainable farming practices with academic programs; assisting with developing a market for farm raised meat and poultry; assisting with developing and managing gardens (CSA, charitable, and community); maintaining a high level of stewardship of the Roth facilities; developing a budget and monitoring expenditures, making necessary adjustments; providing oversight and control of production equipment, adhering to safety requirements and maintenance schedules; assisting with routine maintenance and work with the Farm Team to schedule more extensive repairs; ensuring that only authorized and trained operators use the equipment; day-to-day operation and maintenance of any greenhouse or high tunnels constructed including repairs of heating, cooling, and sanitation; all recordkeeping and required postings; requesting, scheduling, training, and supervising student employees and students enrolled in the Experiential Learning Program; ensuring students responsible for driving tractors and operating farm equipment enroll in the Tractor Safety Orientation Program, providing the Student Personnel Handbook, and maintaining time sheets for the proper payroll reports; ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Position requires a B.S. and M.S. degree and five to seven years of related experience or equivalent combination of educational experience. Additional requirements include: demonstrated commitment to sustainable agriculture principals; excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively about sustainable agriculture with stakeholders and general public; supervisory experience managing employees and the ability to work well with faculty, students, College employees, volunteers, general public, and other stakeholders; extensive knowledge and experience in sustainable agriculture principals including the production and marketing of livestock and crops; experience with developing and managing gardens (CSA, charitable, and community); experience in operation and routine maintenance of agricultural equipment; experience in developing, enacting and managing annual budgets; ability to support classroom and laboratory instruction; ability to formulate and enact short and long range plans and goals of the Center; computer knowledge and ability to prepare spreadsheets for record-keeping; knowledge and experience with laws, regulations, and guidelines governing food safety and livestock and poultry production; must be able to lift at least 50 pounds; must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record.
