About the European Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (EVCA)

EVCA is a member-based, non-profit trade association, established in 1983 and is based in Brussels. EVCA represents, promotes and protects the interests of the European private equity and venture capital industry.With over 1,200 members in Europe, EVCA's role includes representing the interests of the industry to regulators, standard setters and policy makers at the European Union institutions.

EVCA develops professional standards; provides industry research; professional development and conferences, and facilitates interaction between its members and key industry participants including institutional investors, entrepreneurs, policymakers and academics.

About the role

The EVCA External Relations team runs political campaigns. The aim of all our work is to increase the understanding of private equity and venture capital while improving the regulatory and public policy environment for the industry, and in turn investment in growth and innovation.
Reporting to the Head of External Relations this role involves a high degree of flexibility and resourcefulness coupled with the ability to work with colleagues in the EVCA legal, communications and research teams. This is a unique and challenging opportunity to work in a rapidly changing industry set to play a key role in Europe’s economic growth agenda.

External Relations/Policy Officer will:

  • Provide general support in the execution of political advocacy campaigns including:
    • Identification of key actors to influence at European Institutions, and other stakeholders;
    • Message development and production of presentations/position statements;
    • Secure meetings with policy makers & secure speaking positions at conferences;
    • Executing policy and regulatory impact surveys to industry practitioners in conjunction with the research team;
    • Plan and execute workshops and events in Brussels.
  • Take primary responsibility for building out and updating database/CRM system of all policy contacts and direct opinion formers including mapping of relationships (campaign grids) on short, medium and long term policy objectives;
  • Manage policy & campaign calendar and timelines utilising current monitoring tools and in-house contacts.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Hold a Bachelors degree in Economics/Law/International Relations or associated subjects;
  • 1-2 years experience in Brussels public policy and/or communications work gained either in a consultancy, EU institution or political advocacy group/trade association preferably with some exposure to financial services and/or policy making on enterprise, industry or innovation;
  • Fluent written and oral English is mandatory (working language of the company). Mastering of other EU languages is an outspoken asset in relations with EU contacts and with member companies and associations;
  • Excellent communication qualities especially in writing, editing and drafting;
  • Advanced IT user skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook);
  • Ability to research, evaluate, negotiate, establish and maintain relationships with members, policy officials and other decision makers;
  • Open minded & balanced personality, ready to contribute in a flexible way to a small but dynamic team;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with sense of diplomacy, cultural awareness and flexibility;
  • Be accurate, efficient, dynamic and organized. Be a team player who can work proactively and independently.
