Finance & Administration Director VillageReach Seattle, WA

VillageReach invites applications for a Finance & Administration Director. VillageReach is a 501(c)3 nonprofit social entrepreneur working to save lives and improve health by increasing access to quality healthcare for remote, underserved communities.

The Finance & Administration Director is based in the Seattle, WA headquarters of VillageReach and reports to the President. The Finance & Administration Director is responsible for all financial, operational, and administrative activities of VillageReach worldwide. The successful candidate will be a person motivated by mission, a highly dynamic and innovative environment, and the understanding that his/her contribution is critical to the success of VillageReach.

The Finance & Administration Director will have the following primary responsibilities:

• Develop and implement an operational plan to support VillageReach’s expansion and ensure the organization’s smooth operation;

• Manage and improve the administrative and financial infrastructure to support both contractual and grant funding from multi-lateral, bi-lateral, institutional and individual donors;

• Serve as the Treasurer for VillageReach, and administrative and financial manager for the Seattle headquarters and all overseas offices;

• Provide budgetary oversight, management support and financial accountability for the organization including leading and directing the process of long-term budgeting and financial analysis;

• Support VillageReach development and fundraising activities by working with program staff to create and review budget proposals and assess administrative needs for programs;

• Develop a human resources strategy for VillageReach growth and oversee VillageReach human resources activities including the hiring of new personnel, benefit plans and time tracking; and

• Develop planning scenarios as a basis for decision-making by the President, leadership staff and the Board, and provide assurance to the Board, donors and partners the organization has the necessary infrastructure to advance its mission and meet its commitments.

Qualifications & Characteristics

The ideal candidate will have the following professional qualifications and personal characteristics:

• Passion for the mission of VillageReach, including strong commitment to low- and middle-income countries and/or to broader global issues, and including some experience working directly with similar programs;

• Strong financials skills, experience with building and managing budgets, forecasting, project management, and analysis of organizational performance;

• Substantial management experience and strong management skills, enabling VillageReach to become better organized and administratively efficient, set clear expectations for staff and strengthen a sense of team spirit while also addressing individual needs and concerns;

• Experience working internationally with a variety of stakeholders including multi-lateral and bi-lateral engagements (particularly USAID contracting); experience working in low- and middle-income countries preferred;

• Intellectual agility to be an active leader and partner with the President in the full range of VillageReach functions, from operational management to strategic planning;

• Open mindedness to accommodate the non-traditional mix of disciplines within VillageReach and interpersonal skills to work effectively in partnership with others in the organization;

• Strong communication skills for working with both staff and board members;

• Cross-cultural skills for managing the operational aspects of VillageReach’s overseas offices;

• Strong writing/presentation skills and the ability to assemble, distill and analyze all necessary information for decision-making; and

• Personal qualities including energy, intelligence, integrity, diplomacy, sound practical judgment and the ability to work independently without supervision.

Further Requirements

• Fluent in English;
• Ability to establish and sustain professional relationships with donor and peer organizations and VillageReach staff;
• Knowledge and understanding of fundraising practices and principles;
• Availability to travel both domestically and internationally;
• Proficiency in office productivity applications and accounting software (e.g., Sage Fund Accounting);
• Strong oral and presentation-level communication skills;
• Ability to work collaboratively and collegially in a small team; and
• Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks, problem-solve, and work under pressure.
Education and Experience Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree and at least five (5) years of finance and administration experience is required; and
• A CPA qualification and/or an MBA, MPA or equivalent degree is strongly preferred.
