Global Co-coordinator (Gender-based Violence Area of Responsibility), EMOPS, Geneva

Purpose

The Global GBV AoR Co-coordinators will galvanize this inter-agency expertise to advocate for the mainstreaming of GBV issues throughout the cluster system and will actively represent the GBV AoR working group in key cluster forums. She/he will enhance the use of knowledge and empirical evidence on GBV sub-cluster coordination for policy design and evaluation. In all activities, s/he fosters collaboration internally within the Office of Emergency Programs in Geneva and New York, Program Division in New York, and, with Regional and Country Offices, and externally with relevant actors in UNICEF, within the GBV AoR and the broader humanitarian community, ensuring the timeliness, adequacy, relevance and quality of substantive outputs.

The primary roles of the GBV AoR Co-coordinators are:
• Strategic support
• Results-based management
• Capacity development
• Evidence and knowledge development and dissemination
• Technical representation

Qualifications and Competencies

QUALIFICATIONS:
Advanced University Degree or equivalent in gender studies, social anthropology, law and women’s rights, sociology, cultural studies, public health, demography, socio-economics, or other field directly related to the substantive area identified in the title of the post.
• 10 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in the area of gender-based violence gender equality, women’s empowerment, protection, and/or human rights of which seven years at the international level in humanitarian context(s).
• An acknowledged expert and recognized authority in the technical area.
• Understanding of IASC systems and protocols, essential.
• Broad experience in GBV programming in emergencies, essential.
• Experience in culturally sensitive programming, essential.
• Knowledge and experience of working on legal issues and Civil Society involvement in related security and protection, an asset.
• Strong track record of technical leadership, publications, and proven ability to produce demonstrable results.
• Extensive network within the humanitarian community.
• Field experience, highly desirable.
• Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.
