Oxfam International is looking for a Chairperson for its Board

Oxfam is an international confederation of 17 independent, non-governmental organizations working together in 92 countries, as part of a global movement for change, to build a future free from the injustice of poverty. This powerful global movement is coordinated, supported and led by the International Secretariat based in Oxford, UK with advocacy and campaigns offices in Washington DC, New York, Brussels, Geneva, Brasilia and a liaison office with the African Union in Addis Ababa.

The Chairperson will:


· Lead the Board of Oxfam International to provide strategic direction for the
confederation of Oxfam affiliates and to govern its pursuit of Oxfam's mission.

Lead the Executive Committee of the Board to fulfil the functions and responsibilities delegated to it by the full Board.
Supervise, on behalf of the Board, the work of Oxfam International Executive Director.
Represent Oxfam International with key stakeholders.
This is an unpaid position, with actual expenses incurred paid by Oxfam. Time requirement is about 1/3 of a workweek. The appointment is for three years, renewable once. There is no location requirement; communication is mostly by internet and phone, a few trips are needed every year to Board meetings or affiliates.


Oxfam is seeking candidates with experience in international cooperation, humanitarian, development and advocacy work including those with commercial, government and media experience. In case of comparable capabilities among candidates, priority will be given to women and to people from developing countries.


The appointment commences in March 2013.
