Policy Advisor / Campaigner - Biofuels

SALARY: £35,800 - £37,063
LOCATION: London, EC1R 0BJ
CONTRACT: 2 months
CLOSING DATE: 6th July 2012 by 12 noon

ActionAid is the leading voice on the negative impacts of biofuels on people living in poverty. Now is a crucial time for this area of work. 2012 will see negotiations on new EU biofuels legislation, a review of the impacts of biofuels on people and a UK consultation on biofuel targets.

We’re now looking for a Policy Advisor/Campaigner with excellent knowledge and experience of working on biofuel issues to help us with research, campaigning and the development of our advocacy plan going forward.

As Policy Advisor/Campaigner you will provide rigorous political analysis, strategic planning and research on biofuels. You will help us highlight their impact on people living in poverty as well as develop and deliver public and supporter campaigning.

You will also plan and take part in lobbying as well as campaign and media actions to bring about change in UK policy and practice. Key will be your ability to help reduce government support for biofuels and remove targets in the UK and EU.

A graduate in a relevant discipline you will have worked in a public policy, NGO or academic environment. With excellent biofuels knowledge and experience as well as experience in policy analysis and research on biofuel issues, you will have proven expertise in developing strategic campaign actions and materials using both online and print.

With the ability to lobby civil servants and politicians, you are a strong project manager who is skilled at creating and implementing advocacy strategies. You are also good at networking and contact building in political, academic or NGO settings.

You must have a strong commitment to ActionAid’s values, including those on women’s rights.
