CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation (CIVICUS) is the leading global civil society alliance dedicated to strengthening citizen action and civil society around the world. With secretariat headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa, and with members in over 100 countries, CIVICUS is a diverse network of civil society organisations and citizens committed to confronting the challenges that face humanity.
At the end of 2012, as CIVICUS enters a new five-year strategic plan (2013-2017) seeking to better respond to the contemporary needs and potential of civil society, the CIVICUS Board of Directors is now searching for the next Secretary General to lead the alliance and manage the secretariat. The successful candidate will be expected to drive a period of growth, realignment with contemporary civil society forces, and achieving impact for civil society.
As a potential candidate, you will be a successful leader in a national or global role. You might be particularly experienced in your field, or you might be a young, dynamic and politically savvy leader looking to grow into a global leadership role. Either way, you will be able to inspire and connect with audiences and people of all kinds, from presidents to protestors on the street and staff in the office. You will have excellent knowledge of the challenges and crises facing humanity, as well as civil society’s efforts to confront them.
