Vice President: New Business Development & Fundraising

For this new executive-level position, your vision and oversight are needed to diversify ANERA's funding sources and revenue for programming. By growing ANERA's revenue base, you will directly improve the lives of the most vulnerable people in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon.

You will identify new business development opportunities with institutional funders of strategic and technical interest to ANERA, overseeing and actively leading proposals, solicitation of grants, corporation/foundation funds, and major gifts events.

You will also provide general oversight of direct mail, planned giving, individual donor relations, and online donations. With your oversight, the headquarters fundraising team – made up of six staff – is expected to increase funding to ANERA and encourage long-term financial contributions and commitment.

In coordination with the president and various stakeholders, you will initiate and implement a long-term strategy for growth. You also will be expected to create and/or manage administrative systems that will facilitate growth goals and improve ANERA’s overall operations.

As a member of the senior management team, you will coordinate with the president, chief financial officer and country directors to provide leadership and management of all ANERA activities. This includes collaborating with the board of directors.

The position’s responsibilities can be divided into the following areas.

New Business Development

  • Expand ANERA’s relationship with USAID and diversify our base to other funders.
  • Maintain relationships with stakeholders, partners and collaborators.
  • Monitor donor strategies and funding opportunities, identifying ways in which ANERA can best contribute according to core competencies and technical staff
  • Coordinate pre-bid intelligence gathering within the donor community and go/no go analysis of upcoming RFAs, RFPs, and unsolicited proposals.
  • Identify a pool of technical experts, writers and reviewers for proposal development.
  • Lead in the setting of goals, systems, processes, protocols and implementation for ANERA’s grant solicitation.
  • Coordinate with country office staff to prioritize funding targets and joint cultivation.
  • Manage various stakeholder relationships including headquarters, field and board.
  • Oversee and, in some cases, actively lead the proposal submission process.
  • Overhaul ANERA proposal templates and standard language.
  • Maintain up-to-date capability statements.

Fundraising

  • Assist cultivation and solicitation of major individual, foundation and corporate donors through all vehicles.
  • Manage, with the president, the execution of international fundraising efforts, including government donations.
  • Represent ANERA at select donor and membership gatherings.
  • Oversee composition and review of high-level funding proposals and reports.
  • Initiate, advance and oversee fundraising efforts, ensuring they are consistent with ANERA’s values and capacity.

Budgetary Management & Agency Administration

  • Coordinate with the chief financial officer on financial matters.
  • Develop departmental and revenue budgets with participation of relevant team members and in conjunction with the president.
  • Approve and monitor fundraising team expenses and budgets.
  • Develop and maintain policies/procedures and systems to enhance efficient operations consistent with our mission, guiding principles and best business practices.
  • Manage donor database system and integrate with other agency operations.


Qualifications


Qualifications

You are exceptionally knowledgeable about non-profit business development and resource generation. Your strong communication, strategic and leadership skills are critical to success in this position. You bring the capacity and desire to work in an environment of consensus-based decision-making and highly effective cross-disciplinary cooperation.

You have a proven track record of senior management, with supervision of staff, and an ability to manage multiple tasks, especially on a long-distance basis.

Your values are consistent with ANERA’s, which are based on collaboration, entrepreneurship, high ethical standards, accuracy and a driven desire to make a difference in the lives of families throughout the Middle East.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated success in raising six-figure gifts from grantors, donors & funders
  • Proposal writing and grant solicitation experience
  • Highly organized administrator with an eye to systems
  • Experienced in international relief and development
  • Knowledge of the Middle East (preferred)
  • Willingness and ability to travel to Gaza, West Bank, Lebanon.
  • Masters degree

Background

ANERA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit headquartered in Washington DC and working in the Middle East for over 44 years. Founded in 1968, ANERA is dedicated to improving lives in the Middle East and employs more than 80 full-time staff in the West Bank, Gaza, Lebanon and Jordan who are locally hired and work with local partners. ANERA draws on a diverse range of funding sources to deliver programs and in-kind donations to communities in the Middle East.

ANERA’s headquarters has a staff of 12. A team of six fundraising professionals is responsible for ANERA’s new business development, donor cultivation and stewardship, online initiatives, and coordination of all fundraising efforts from private individuals and non-governmental institutions. This collaborative and highly effective team works in conjunction with the field staff in raising a multi-million dollar annual fund, communicates with an online list of over 30,000, and provides financial stewardship to a list of over 8,000 individual donors in 30 countries annually.

ANERA’s field operations include five offices in the Palestinian Territories, one in Beirut and a representative in Amman. While numbers of field staff fluctuate, they average 65 of which only one is an expat (American).
