Led by EngenderHealth, the CHAMPION Project (Channeling Men’s Positive Involvement in a National HIV/AIDS Response) seeks to increase positive male involvement in HIV/AIDS and reproductive health. The project is funded by the US President’s Emergency Fund for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and is implemented in 12regions of Tanzania, with the main office located in Dar es Salaam. CHAMPION invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill in the Accounts Assistant post based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This position is open to Tanzania national candidates only.

Scope of Position

The job holder shall be responsible to assist the Accountant in the daily accounting duties. S/he will assist in petty cash management, payment processing in the Quick Book, proper filing of accounting documents, preparing statutory returns, payroll processing, manage staff advances, and production of periodical financial reports.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Assist accountant in process payments by preparing cheques and issue receipts for cash inflow to EngenderHealth.
  • Ensure all financial documents are complete and properly filed by having relevant documentations such as vouchers, payment requisitions, profoma invoices, bid analysis, contracts/LPOs, receiving reports, tax invoices, proper codes and receipts.
  • Prepare and manage Local Purchase Orders and ensure that suppliers’ payments are accurately and timely paid.
  • Assist the Accountant to prepare accurate monthly payroll and returns and ensure timely submission of statutory returns to the respective authority TRA and Pension Authority monthly and annually.
  • Prepare creditors reconciliation and reconciling with statement of accounts and payments made to ensure that no double payment is made to vendors and contractors.
  • Assist with the preparations of audit schedules and documents.
  • Cut all cheques and be a custodian of all cheque books for the office.
  • Prepare all receipts vouchers and bank all the money/cheques received promptly.
  • Assist in inventory management by preparing and updating inventory/fixed asset register. Doing the inventory count twice in a year.
  • Petty Cash Management by reviewing and compiling petty cash vouchers, requesting petty cash replenishment and ensuring records and actual cash balance on a daily basis.
  • Ensure that staff account for their advances properly and promptly and help in the reconciliation of the staff advances.
  • Assisting accountant in the preparation of monthly financial reports for the CHAMPION project.
  • Any other relevant duties that might be assigned from time to time by immediate supervisor.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Accounting or Advanced Diploma in Accountancy or equivalent
  • Minimum two years experience
  • Experience in accounting and auditing
  • Experience in donor funded project
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications – Ms Word, Ms Excel
