Concern Worldwide HEADS OF GRANTS & TECHNICAL UNIT

Senior level manager to lead a dynamic, professional team dedicated to meeting ambitious income goals in support of our overseas programs through new business development strategies, including effective intelligence gathering, high quality proposal development, grant management and technical support.

Concern Worldwide US also supports our global advocacy on Hunger & humanitarian issues and engages the US public, in particular high school students on international development issues through our Active Global Citizens program.

ROLE Concern Worldwide US is seeking to significantly expand its funding base in support of our overseas emergency and development programs.

The Head of Grants & Technical Unit is a newly created position that brings Concern’s new business development, grant management and technical support resources together to develop and deliver on multi-year fundraising and development strategies to support our overseas work.

Reporting to the Operations Director, he/she will work closely with Concern’s globally based overseas management team and Grants Coordination Unit.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

New Business Development:

• Analyze key US donor institutions’ funding strategies policies and procurement plans at both the central and mission levels.

• Develop a multi-year strategy to maximize funding opportunities to support Concern’s emergency & development programs.

• Strengthen relations and strategic partnerships with key US donor institutions.

• Increase our response rate to new grant opportunities through improved intelligence gathering, and development of effective grant tracking tools. Proposal Development & Grant Management:

• Provide overall leadership and expertise in proposal development, engaging our finance team and technical advisors to ensure applications are highly competitive in terms of technical strength, cost and compliance.

• Foster and support Concern field staff capacity in securing US Government grant opportunities. This may include the deployment of appropriate support staff to the country programs to facilitate the negotiation of new grants.

• Ensure grant management tools /systems are updated and utilized effectively.

• Review all grant narrative and financial reporting to ensure very high standards of accuracy and compliance with reporting guidelines.

• Conduct monitoring visits to overseas programs funded through USAID and other institutions.

Technical Unit Supervision:

• Manage Concern US based technical advisors (health, nutrition & education), working in close liaison with other Technical Units Heads within Concern to ensure on-going improvement in program quality and learning.

• Effectively engage our Technical advisors with US donor, UN and NGO technical units and networks, contributing to learning and development of best practice.

• Contribute to the development of evidence based publications and communicate Concern’s program impact and learning at key donor and technical conferences.

REQUIREMENTS:

• At least 7 years working for an international NGO or donor agency, with overseas program experience.

• Master’s degree in development/humanitarian studies or equivalent.

• Excellent communications, representation and networking skills.

• Significant experience in managing the submission of successful proposals and applications to USAID and other donors.

• Successful track record managing diverse teams.

• Strong financial and project management experience.

• Demonstrated ability to multi-task.

• Ability to work collaboratively through cross organizational management structures

• Fluency in spoken and written English required.

• Ability to travel internationally and domestically.

• Currently authorized to work in the US
