The ASA Metals Smelter and its subsidiary, Dilokong Chrome Mine, are situated on the eastern limb of the Bushveld Igneous Complex (BIC), where some 83% of the world’schrome reserves are located. These endeavours include: • A Chromium Production Mine • An ore beneficiation plant • Pelletising and sinter plant • Four 66 MVA production furnaces. Role: The incumbent will ensure the total engineering efficiency of the Mine and the optimum availability and reliability of all equipment and plant through compliance with engineering standards, targets and service level agreements as well as the delivery of capital projects now and in the future. Functions include ensuring legal compliance and carrying a 2.13.3.1 and a 7(4) Mine Health and Safety Act legal appointment, implement business plan objectives to ensure targets are optimally met and manage budget and cost efficiently and effectively. Furthermore, he/she will facilitate optimum decision making related to the mining engineering function and ensure that the professional requirements of the discipline is optimally managed and integrated into the business activities, manage subordinates’ performance, including HR, ER skills development, research and implement process improvement to minimise operational impact and maintenance strategies, as well as provide technical support to subordinates during faultfinding and improvement work. Identifing and motivating projects to ensure continuous improvement, managing projects to cost and time, adhering to the Clauses and Regulations of the MHS Act and participating in the Company’s Health, Safety Environmental and Quality Management programme will also form part of his/her duties.

Requirements: Applicants must hold an Electrical/Mechanical Engineering degree or National Diploma, a Government Certificate of Competency for Mines and Works and 5 years’ experience in engineering and/or maintenance management. Experience in managing engineering projects and a valid Certificate of Fitness are also required. Computer literacy and good communication skills in a competitive environment are essential, as are a valid driver’s licence and the ability to work independently in a highly stressed production environment. A desire to learn new skills, as well as being part of a team is vital.
