Asylum Access Soiree Planning Intern

Asylum Access is an innovative nonprofit dedicated to realizing refugee rights in the Africa, Asia and Latin America through individualized legal counsel and representation, community legal empowerment, policy advocacy and strategic litigation. We are currently seeking a Soiree Planning Intern to assist in Phase 1 of organizing Asylum Access’s 8th Annual Summer Soiree and Auction, to be held on World Refugee Day, Thursday, June 20, 2013 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco, USA.

The ideal candidate will be a highly organized individual with good communication skills, a passion for human rights empowerment, and an interest in gaining experience in nonprofit event-based fundraising. Interns are welcome to stay on for Phase 2 in Winter 2012 if desired.

Internship Responsibilities:

• Outreach to past and prospective organizing partners to secure this year’s partners, including law firms, corporate sponsors, honorary guests, and speakers.
• Publicity through online platforms and media outreach.
• Liaising with our graphic designer, vendors, and donors; and soliciting live auction items.
• General coordination and support to our Soiree Chair and organizing committee

Qualifications:

• Passion for human rights or refugee rights issues
• Positive attitude
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a tea
• Good interpersonal skills and phone manner
• Attention to detail
• Ability to multi-task and stay organized
• Knowledge of social media and online publicity platforms in the Bay Area
• Marketing and/or event planning experience a plus
• Available for 12 weeks or more for 16-20 hours/week
