Manager, Business Development Baltimore, MD USA

PURPOSE
To secure resources from a variety of public sector sources, both bilateral and multilateral, to support the expansion of IYF’s program models and to develop new programs and partnerships that support IYF’s strategic priorities.

SUMMARY
The International Youth Foundation (IYF), a global nonprofit organization that works to improve the lives and conditions of young people worldwide, is seeking a Manager to support its Business Development team. This position will support the identification, tracking, and conceptualization of new programs funded by USAID and other public sector donors. The ideal candidate will have experience developing proposals and/or implementing projects focused on youth education, employment, or civic engagement, excellent writing and time management skills, and the ability to be a valuable contributor to a small, fast-paced team. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the Vice President of Public Sector Business Development to develop and manage public sector fundraising goals, strategies and plans. Provide support for the monitoring and tracking of public sector resource development activities.
  • Support the development of new partnerships and secure new resources from bilateral and multilateral development agencies such as USAID, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the World Bank. Work with Business Development team leadership to cultivate and maintain strong relationships with all donors.
  • Identify potential new funding opportunities both in the United States and abroad, by keeping informed about upcoming competitive solicitations as well as identifying unique IYF development opportunities. Analyze funding opportunity requirements and lead or support the coordination of select proposals (including preparation of outlines, tailored checklists, instructions, and templates).
  • Work closely with public sector donors, local partner organizations, and program staff to support or manage the conceptualization and development of new innovative programs, as well as the enhancement and expansion of ongoing programs.
  • Work closely with program staff and partner organizations to draft, edit, and submit program development documents (proposals, concept papers, briefing papers, budgets).
  • Work in close coordination with other staff to contribute to organizational, programmatic, and regional meetings that support public resource mobilization goals, strategies and plans.
  • Represent the organization to the international development and youth development communities.
  • Conduct field assessments and partnership generation travel leading to the development of new programs and partnerships, as required.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Advanced degree in a field relevant to IYF’s mission and programs (e.g., international development, business, marketing, social science, international relations or public policy) preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in fundraising, program development and/or program management in the international development sector.
  • Strong proposal development skills, including writing and editing, targeting resource development with USAID and other overseas government development agencies and multilateral institutions.
  • Experience developing proposal budgets preferred.
  • Experience in youth development work preferred and/or background in designing and/or implementing education, employability, and/or civic engagement programs.
  • Ability to make sound judgments, assume responsibility, and work independently in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to identify and balance priorities to ensure that tasks are completed accurately and in a timely and professional manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills appropriate for operating effectively in a multicultural, international team environment.
  • Strong oral and written English communication skills. Fluency in a second language, preferably Spanish or French, is a plus.
  • Excellent computer skills using MS Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel internationally as needed.
