Partnerships Manager, YouthMap

PURPOSE
To lead partnership development efforts for IYF’s YouthMap program through active engagement with the private sector, foundations, multi/bilateral organizations, and other prospective partners.

SUMMARY
The International Youth Foundation (IYF), a global nonprofit organization that works to improve the lives and conditions of young people worldwide, is seeking a Partnerships Manager for its YouthMap Program. YouthMap is a four-year, USAID-funded project designed to assess youth circumstances as well as support promising programs and practices in positive youth development in sub-Saharan Africa. The program is conducting holistic assessments on the conditions of young people and the status of the youth-serving infrastructure in eight countries in the region and establishing an innovation fund to provide seed grants to replicate promising practices, address gaps in existing programs, and scale up innovations that are working for youth in the areas of education and employability.

As part of the program design, IYF seeks to attract multi-sectoral funding to increase the impact of the program’s innovation funds. The Manager, Partnership Development will lead the development of partnerships with the private sector, foundations and multi/bilateral organizations with the goal of bringing in cash and in-kind contributions (“leverage”) to the YouthMap program, both at the country, regional and global levels. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and manage the execution of the YouthMap partnership development strategy, including: identifying, cultivating and maintaining potential private sector, foundation, and multi/bilateral partners at the global, regional and Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) country levels.
  • Develop and manage leverage contributions and partnerships for current and prospective YouthMap Innovation Fund projects in the region, including developing leverage concept papers, proposals, budgets, work plans, and regular reports.
  • Build the capacity of local program implementers to meet their leverage requirements through the design and implementation of capacity building workshops and the development of capacity building tools.
  • Contribute to positive and consistent communication with YouthMap local implementing partners and ensure appropriate visibility for the YouthMap program in Africa.
  • Support technical program needs and communications materials development as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelors degree and 5+ years of experience in program management and/or international development preferred. Masters degree is highly preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English is required. Ability to conduct business (written and verbal) in French and/or Portuguese is preferred.
  • Proven ability to prospect partnership leads, develop concept papers, proposals, and budgets and cultivate and maintain prospective relationships. Experience in business development and/or fundraising in the international development sector preferred.
  • Analytical ability to identify and establish priorities and plan work flows and procedures.
  • Problem solving ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, demonstrate creativity and flexibility in addressing problems, work well in group problem-solving situations.
  • Project management ability to develop project plans, coordinate projects, and communicate changes and progress.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, establish priorities, and exercise sound judgment in response to complex and sensitive situations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills appropriate for operating effectively in a multicultural, international environment.
  • Previous work on USAID projects is preferred.
  • Interest in and experience in Sub-Saharan region.
  • Experienced in the use of the full suite of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel internationally as needed.
