The Institute of Development Studies (IDS) is a leading global charity for research, teaching and information on international development, based in Brighton.

To support work on a growing portfolio of work on nutrition, the Vulnerability, Poverty and Research team are seeking to recruit two Research Officers.

Post 1:

The funding for this post is initially until the end of December 2014. The contract is for at least 29 hours per month and the hours are negotiable and to be agreed with the line manager.
This post will support work on the Hunger Reduction Commitment Index (www.hrcindex.org) and a new Nutrition Commitment Index and therefore particularly requires strong knowledge of index building principles.

Post 2:

The funding for this post is initially for one year and it is a full time position (35 hours per week). This post will support research across the portfolio of research on Transform Nutrition (www.transformnutrition.org)This post particularly requires a sound knowledge of evaluation methods, strong quantitative skills and an ability to work with both quantitative and qualitative methods
There may be some scope for flexibility of hours within the two posts.

Both candidates should have very strong quantitative (econometric) skills, a methodological mindset and STATA programming skills and have demonstrated ability to work independently and have conducted research and/or consultancy work, ideally in close collaboration with overseas partners. They will be expected to manage multiple tasks, be able to meet tight deadlines and have accomplished writing, communication and presentation skills. A track record of working in the area of development and with overseas partners would be advantageous.

Applicants should have a masters degree in development studies or related discipline or equivalent experience.

Salary: £23,58735 - £35,231 per annum depending on experience
