Trade Policy Adviser Pacific Island Forum Secretariat Suva, Fiji

The Secretariat seeks a suitably qualified and experienced person to fill the position of Trade Policy Adviser. The Trade Policy Adviser will be accountable to the Director of the Economic Governance Programme for:

• Managing a team of trade policy staff and consultants to deliver timely and high-quality technical advice and assistance to Forum Member Countries on trade policy issues;
• Managing a team of trade policy staff and consultants to provide timely and high-quality briefings, correspondence, reports and analysis for Executive and other stakeholders;
• Managing a team to organise Officials’, Ministers’ and Leaders’ meetings; and
• Building strong relationships through Officials’-level liaison with Forum Member Countries and other counterparts.

Applicants should have an advance degree in Development Economics, International Trade, or Business Administration and have experience in implementing international trade policy at the government level.

Applicants with experience to deliver policy outcomes successfully to deadlines with working experience in a Ministry of Foreign Affairs or experience working in Government trade negotiation teams would be desirable.

Candidates should demonstrate substantial relevant work experience at a senior level dealing with economic and multilateral trade policy issues in the region or in an international environment; sound knowledge and understanding of trade, economic issues and problems facing Forum member countries and in relation to international, regional economic integration. Applicants should have an ability to develop strong relationships with counterpart governments and to respond to their needs, and should have strong analytical skills and ability to lead and motivate a team and be a clear communicator. Applicants should be willing to travel economy class.

The appointment will carry a competitive remuneration and benefits package including medical and life insurance. The salary will be in the range of SDR36,894 to SDR55,342 per annum. At the 1 August 2012 exchange rate this salary range was equivalent to FJD102,797 to FJD154,199. For non-Fijian nationals, this salary may be tax-free.
