Brief description: DFID has current and anticipated statistics adviser and assistant statistician vacancies in a number of UK based teams, as well as in our Sudan office and possibly other country programmes.
DFID Statistics Advisers play a key role in: ensuring DFID policies are underpinned by credible evidence; supporting senior management monitor DFID’s achievements through our results framework; ensuring our public statistics are accurate; providing high quality statistics and analysis in programme design and monitoring; and driving up the quality and availability of national and international statistics.
The posts will be in the following areas:
- In regional or country offices (including Sudan). This will include working with DFID teams to promote and instil better monitoring and evaluation (M&E) throughout the programme. Posts may also include providing direct support and advice to developing country statisticians.
- In the team managing global programmes, supporting statistical development through multilateral agencies and the international statistical system.
- In the corporate division focused on corporate performance.
- In Policy Division, for example providing analytical support on policy priorities such as AIDS and reproductive health; climate change and water and sanitation.
Successful candidates will display an effective command of the Government Statistical Service competencies. Candidates should also have good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of users and customers and at all levels of government, and in different cultures.
Candidates recruited at Assistant Statistician level will be expected to successfully complete the Government Statistician Fast Stream process within 2 years of their appointment.
Relocation support may be available where successful candidates are required to move home to take up post.
