Advisor/Senior Advisor, U4 Anti-Corruption Resource Centre CMI - Chr. Michelsen Institute

The Chr. Michelsen Institute (www.cmi.no) seeks experienced anti-corruption/good governance experts to contribute to a vibrant programme of research, training, and communications focused on corruption, anti-corruption and development. At least two full-time positions are expected for persons who want to build knowledge and influence policy and practice in these areas.

Advisors will primarily work on the U4 project at CMI. U4 has sustained core funding, but Advisors will also be expected to mobilize some additional funding for projects within their thematic areas.

Key responsibilities of U4 Advisors are commissioning and conducting applied research on selected themes in corruption/anti-corruption and development, establishing and/or maintaining web-based resource pages on selected themes, organising and delivering workshops (in developing countries) in collaboration with U4 Partner Agency staff, and developing and delivering on-line training courses. Qualifications:

  • Advanced university degree in a relevant field (e.g., political science, international relations, economics, law, anthropology). A PhD is an advantage but is not required;
  • At least 3 years professional experience in development policy and/or practice relevant to anti-corruption and good governance (higher-level positions require additional experience );
  • A record of operationally-relevant research, writing and/or publication relevant to anti-corruption and good governance in a development setting;
  • Experience with training and facilitation in on-line or in-person settings;
  • Fluency in English, including excellent writing skills;
  • Proficiency in French, Arabic or Spanish an advantage;
  • Experience in development aid programming an advantage;
  • Experience in project oversight and budget management an advantage.

Personal qualities:

  • Desire to influence development policy and practice and to engage with development practitioners ‘in the field’;
  • Self-starting, creative, hard working, flexible and service-minded;
  • Ability to work well in teams and independently.
