IFC Mediation Consultant - Dispute Resolution Framework in the Coffee Sector

IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is supporting the National Court in establishing a cost-effective and sustainable alternative for dispute resolution for businesses and others in Papua New Guinea, as a complement to the formal court system.

Building on IFC’s expertise and ongoing program of support to the coffee sector in the highlands of Papua New Guinea, this project will pilot the use of mediation in pre-litigation disputes for the coffee sector. IFC will work with industry leaders and smallholders, as well as with the ADR Committee, to establish a protocol for endorsement by industry groups or individual companies, with the aim of resolving coffee-sector disputes before they come to court when appropriate.

IFC is seeking a Mediation Consultant to guide stakeholders in establishment of a pre-litigation alternative dispute resolution protocol in the coffee sector in PNG.

The consultant should be a qualified mediator with at least 5 years experience in conducting mediations, with preference for a lawyer. The consultant should have experience working within, and/or designing, industry-specific dispute resolution protocols. Work will be completed both on mission in the highlands of Papua New Guinea and through desk based correspondence. The necessary level of effort is estimated to be not more than 50 working days within the period October 15, 2012 to May 31, 2013.

IFC invites eligible consultants to present their qualifications for providing these services by submitting a response to this Request for Expressions of Interest at the World Bank Group eConsultant website by October 7.
