Media Consultant in South Sudan

The Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS) is a members-only organisation of media entities serving South Sudan. The association aims to provide to members common services, such as agreed code of ethics/conduct, conducive environment for media practitioners as well as provision of a centre for meetings and sharing of information. The current three-year programme is funded by the Government of Norway through Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA).

The project aims at securing a framework and respect for freedom of expression and press freedom in South Sudan. It does that by pushing for the adoption of key legislation surrounding issues of freedom of the press in the SSLA and monitoring the implementation of the laws after they are passed. It also seeks to strengthen key media organisations and actors by training and other methods to improve their ability to report on these key issues.
AMDISS is seeking for a Media Consultant (South Sudanese national only) to work under the supervision of the external consultant to help deliver the Institution goals.

Qualifications:
• At least University degree; in journalism, Mass communications or other relevant combination of experience in media research.
• Three or more years of experience working in media as a consultant with a top consulting firm focused on media Development and strategies.
• Extensive work experience in the area of creative writing and journalism in both broadcast and print media;
• Extensive experience in managing media research and reporting projects and in media analytics.
• Exceptional analytical skills for interpreting complex media contents in short timeframe and transforming them into user friendly materials specially in South Sudan;
• Excellent writing skills, clear and persuasive and experienced enough to prepare a Comprehensive report with specific purpose;
• Prior relevant experience in the context of the South Sudan media developments;
• Superior media/communications skills to effectively present information;
• Working knowledge of PC-based word processing and e-mail technology;
• Fluency in English and in Arabic

Terms of References:
In coordination with the AMDISS Executive Board, the AMDISS secretariat, MDI Training committee the consultant is expected to:
1. Assist an external consultant in writing curriculum for the media development institute.
2. Assisting in journalist training needs assessment (especially to gather information from the states)
3. Developing a training plan with the External Consultant and the Training Committee (a marking scheme should be also developed).
4. Identifying local trainers for the different courses and calling for staff meeting
5. Supervising the actual training sessions (including use of equipment for practicals)
6. Situation analysis of the media/journalist needs in South Sudan.
7. Develop media development Strategy for Media development institute;
8. Any other assignments related to media.
