PROGRAM OFFICER - NUTRITION PLUS ATLANTA, GA

CARE is seeking an experienced Program Officer to provide administrative and communication support to the Window of Opportunity project and the larger Nutrition Plus team. In this capacity, s/he will have responsibility for ensuring contractual agreements are completed, invoices, travel expense reports, coordinating travel for consultants and Window of Opportuntiy team members, and coordination of all meetings and events. Additionally, s/he will assist in the development and production of information, education and communication materials for the Window of Opportunity project. S/he will also be responsible for providing general administrative support to other Nutrition Plus team members when called upon to assist.

Health Equity Unit collaborates with partners in generating, sharing and applying knowledge on the relationships between health, equity and empowerment to maximize global impact on poverty, social justice and well-being for the most marginalized people. Within the Health Equity Unit, the Nutrition Plus team leads CARE’s efforts in Nutrition programming, emphasizing the importance of nutrition not only as a single intervention but also as part of integrated programming for food security, humanitarian assistance, maternal health and early chiildhood development. As such, nutrition is critical to the broad range of development outcomes CARE seeks to achieve across sectors and contributes measurably to breaking the integenerational cycle of poverty. Specific areas of focus include inter-relationships between underlying social and structural causes of poverty, poor health and undernutrition, and using women’s and community empowerment approaches as one strategy to catalyze scalable and sustainable change. The Program Officer will be expected to have expertise in nutrition programming and strong writing skills. The PO will assist in mangaging CARE USA- led nutrition programs such as the ongoing Window of Opportunity program (a five-year, privately funded project aimed at promoting and supporting Infant and Young Child Feeding [IYCF] and related maternal nutrition practices in selected countries) as well as collaborating in the design, implemenatation, evaluation and knowledge sharing for programs led by Country Offices in the areas of nutrition and early childhood development.

Responsibilities:

  • Production of information, education and communication materials for the Nutrition Plus team.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to the Window of Opportunity project and other projects within the Nutrition Plus team.
  • Assist with furthering the nutrition agenda with CARE through working with other sectors.
  • Support to Country Offices.

Required:

  • Masters in Public Health
  • 3-5 years experience working in health programming with a rights based organization
  • Excellent organizational skills for planning and task coordination
  • Detail orientation
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships and working realtionships with government, donors, ministry officials, community leaders, and other development partners
  • High computer proficiency (word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, statistical software (i.e., SAS and/ or SPSS) and Publisher
  • Excellent spelling, grammar, and command of the English language

Desired

  • BA in journalism, advertising, public relations or mass communication
  • 3-5 years experience with developing health/development information, education and communication materials
  • Working with nutrition programming
  • Overseas experience
  • Language: French and Spanish
  • Experience writing both lay and technical pieces including program reports, program briefs, case stories/testimonials, and feature pieces for online media and print publications.
  • Experience developing and maintaining wikis and websites
  • Knowledge about public health and development topics
  • Grant writing
  • Research methodology and analytical skills
  • Experience with doing literature searches and reviews
  • Background in IYCF, rMN, and/or ECD
