Senior Manager - Finance and Administration, India

The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), is seeking a dynamic, innovative, self-motivated, and service-orientated professional for the position of Senior Manager- Finance and Administration. Successful candidate will be accountable for all financial and administrative matters related to CIMMYT’s office in India. The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, known by its Spanish acronym, CIMMYT®, is a not-for-profit research and training organization with partners in over 100 countries.

The position will be based in India, but will interact with all CIMMYT’s experimental stations and regional offices (country and world-wide) on a regular basis.


Specific responsibilities of this position will include:

  • Advise and support the CLO or designate in financial and administrative matters.
  • Prepare and control the budget.
  • Submit high quality financial reports to the required stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Manage accounting and cash management processes.
  • Manage grants including submission of timely and accurate donor reports and adhere to donor requirements.
  • Manage procurement process with strong focus on transparency and value for money.
  • Manage the maintenance and upkeep of the Institute’s assets.
  • Oversee office administration including travel, transportation, facilities, logistics, and Information Technology infrastructure.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local regulatory and tax legislation. Coordinate with governmental bodies as required.
  • Improve, develop, and implement financial and administrative policies and procedures and ensure adherence; ensure appropriate controls are in place.
  • Supervise, develop and motivate a strong Finance and Administration team and manage their performance.
  • Manage internal and external audits and reviews.
  • Other duties as directed by supervisor.

We are seeking candidates with the following qualification, skills and attitudes:

  • Master’s degree – in Commerce, Chartered Accountant preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years progressive leadership experience in Finance and Administration positions; experience in an international organization preferred.
  • Adequate understanding of India’s socio-political situation, entities and agencies; proficient knowledge of Indian laws, banking and regulatory issues.
  • Well versed with International Accounting Standards and good governance.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial software, MS Office applications and donor reporting.
  • Proven management and interpersonal skills, team player, with multi-cultural experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of other languages will be an advantage.
  • High level of cultural awareness and sensitivity. Exposure to other cultures will be an advantage.
