TITLE: Statistical Assistant, Data Processing Standards (DPS) 

CONTRACT TYPE: Short term contract until 31 December 2012 (Special Service Agreement) with possibility of renewal in 2013 

MONTHLY SALARY: CAD $ 2,647.08, net of income taxes 

OFFICE: UNESCO Institute for Statistics Data Processing, Standards, and IT Services (DPSS)

QUALIFICATIONS: 

1. EDUCATION: Completion of postsecondary. Additional training in statistics or data management is an asset.

2. EXPERIENCE: Five years of relevant full-time work experience of which at least two years in collecting, verifying, or processing of statistical data is required. Proficiency in MS Office with advanced skills in MS Excel is essential. Working knowledge of CRM and/or 
SharePoint is an asset.

3. LANGUAGE: Excellent knowledge of English or French with a good working knowledge of the other language. Working knowledge of Arabic, 
Chinese, Russian or Spanish is an asset. 

4. NATIONALITY: In order to be eligible for this contract, applicant must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada or hold a valid 
Canadian work permit. 

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: 

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must enjoy working collaboratively in a multicultural and dynamic team environment. Aptitude for accuracy, deductive reasoning, meticulousness and initiative.

VACANCY NOTICE STATISTICAL ASSISTANT – UIS (CONT.) 

DUTIES: 

Under the overall administrative authority of the Director of the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) in a matrix management environment, the incumbent will in particular: 

1. Assist with the design and test/verify data collection instruments, systems, and methods. 

2. Process data and questionnaires in all UNESCO’s fields of competence (Education, Science and Technology, Communication and Culture). 

3. Document and resolve issues pertaining to non-response or quality of the data in the questionnaire response. 

4. Prepare documents and communicate via email and telephone with survey respondents in national ministries worldwide regarding UIS data collections and activities. 

5. Participate in projects related to quality and metadata management at the UIS. 

6. Contribute to the development and maintenance of statistical standards for data processing by providing input for continuous improvement. 

7. Perform any additional activities that may be required to ensure the success of the team as assigned or as requested by the supervisor.
