TITLE: International Expert – Food Hygiene, Safety, and Handling
DURATION: 30 Days (including travel to Duty Station)
STARTING DATE: 1 November 2012
DUTY STATION: Home-based and Hargeisa, Somaliland
BACKGROUND
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization's (UNIDO) ‘Strengthening Economic Revitalization Through Income-generation and Employment-creation in Somaliland (SERIES)’ project builds upon UNIDO’s initial phase livelihoods support programme first introduced into Somaliland in early 2011. Under SERIES, UNIDO is making a dedicated focus on improving income-flows and employment opportunities for under-employed workers, owner/operators of selected micro-enterprises, and high potential youth. Project activities focus on expanding the productive capacities of project targeted beneficiary groups through locally appropriate technology transfers as well as via the provision of market-oriented technical, vocational, and livelihoods support training programmes.
DETAILS OF TASKS
Under the general supervision of the Chief Technical Advisor (CTA), the Food Hygiene, Safety, and Handling Expert is required to perform the following duties:
•Hold discussions with CTA on the scope of activities to be worked upon and finalize the Training of Trainers Food Hygiene, Safety, and Handling training programme; •Prepare a training workplan that will structure the Training of Trainers (ToT) programme which aims to improve food hygiene, safety, and handling practices for training participants working in local markets; •Finalize pre-work/pre-training activities with UNIDO-SOM project staff and compile for distribution any relevant training documents to support the planned ToT •Conduct Training of Trainer training programme in Food Hygiene, Safety, and Handling for approximately 20 food service technicians and workers using participatory pedagogical instructional techniques and simulations. •Post-training Assessment and presentation of Training milestones and any relevant follow up action items to UNIDO-SOM Operational staff •End of Training Activity Report is prepared and submitted which includes follow-up recommendations for the project team to track and follow.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
•Minimum Bachelor level university degree in agriculture and/or related sciences •Previous experience in technical training, instructional delivery, and/or another relevant discipline; •Professional experience working on issues like Food Technologies, Food Safety, and/or Hygiene; •Previous experience working on livelihoods training and/or micro and small-scale enterprise development an asset; •Good analytical and report writing skills; •Must have a results oriented operational focus and proactive working style; and •Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills, and has demonstrated the capacity to deal effectively with culturally/socially sensitive issues.
REQUIREMENTS
•Ability to communicate in English, verbal and written; •Ability to travel to Hargeisa, Somaliland and able to pass a physician signed medical examination; •Culturally sensitive and able to work with women, youth, and other marginalized and at-risk groups; •Well established computer literacy/competencies.
