Chief Accountant

Job Purpose: Overall responsibility of applying sound financial controls and proper accounting of the University’s assets.

Responsibilities:
  • Overseeing the accounting function of the University, including supervision of staff.
  • Managing the student debtor account, ensuring timely payments of school fees and development of payment plans where necessary.
  • Leading the annual audit by preparing the final accounts and audit schedules, and ensuring tax compliance.
  • Ensuring integrity of all accounting ledgers. Review the master budget to ensure that departmental budgets have been captured accurately.
  • Ensuring taxation issues (PAYE, Withholding Tax and VAT on imported services) and in compliance.
Minimum qualifications
  • Graduate degree in business administration, commerce, accounting, finance, economics or equivalent.
  • Professional Qualifications: CPA (K) or ACCA
Other Requirements: Member of ICPAK or relevant accounting professional body

Skills required: Computer proficiency skills

Minimum Experience: At least five (5) years relevant professional experience in the same capacity

Internal Auditor

Job Purpose: Developing and implementing an effective and efficient internal audit function within USIU. Internal audit function as an independent, objective, assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve university operations

Responsibilities:
  • Developing and implementing an effective and efficient internal audit function within USIU. Internal audit function serves as an independent, objective, assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve university operations by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes.
  • Developing in consultation with senior management a yearly risk based internal audit plan for the entire university and submit for the board audit committee approval
  • Ensuring a smooth and efficient internal audit department with sufficient resources to expedite plans, qualified and efficient staff, and applying the best audit methodologies and standards in the practice
  • Ensure quality of audit reports clearly communicating findings and recommendations on areas for improvement to safeguard risk and assure efficiency in operations
  • Obtaining and corroborating feedback from management the status on the implementation of internal audit reports on a timely basis
  • Promoting adoption of best practice in all university processes
  • Liaising with the University’s external auditors and follow-up on issues identified in the external audit to ensure they are resolved

Assistant Accountant

Job Purpose: Management of accounts receivables

Responsibilities:
  • Maintaining and update the student accounts.
  • Handling queries pertaining to student fees balance and administer the production of statements as and when required.
  • Generating and send out student statements to students/sponsors to hasten collection.
  • Giving financial and final clearance to students and also clear financial holds.
  • Processing student refunds monthly.
  • Reconciling cafeteria debit notes monthly
  • Making payment arrangements with students, parents and sponsors with outstanding fee balances at the beginning of each semester.
  • Producing debtors aging analysis monthly.
  • Drafting letters and prepare invoices for students.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in business administration, commerce, accounting, finance, economics or equivalent.
  • Professional Qualifications: CPA II
Minimum Experience: 2 years in a similar position

Business Application Administrator

Job Purpose: To ensure business applications on the campus are running effectively and provide support to users in resolving their issues in a timely manner.

Responsibilities
  • Managing the ERP, Library System, e-learning platform and other business applications
  • Managing SQL, Oracle and Informix databases that run various business applications
  • Developing reports across the different systems to support decision making in the University
  • Ensuring that access to the business applications is secure and available 24x7
  • Responsible for backup and restore procedures across the different systems
  • Undertake system upgrades and patches for the applications and databases
  • Responsible for undertaking projects to upgrade systems or add on new modules
  • Working with local and international vendors to resolve problems logged into the helpdesk in a timely manner
  • Ensuring documentation for the various systems are up to date
Minimum Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in Information Systems, Electrical Engineering or related degree
  • Database Certification in Oracle or Microsoft SQL
Minimum Experience: 1-2 years’ experience managing applications in a busy environment

External Communications Coordinator

Job Purpose: Establishing, maintaining and continually improving a joined up, proactive and effective External communications process for USIU.

Responsibilities:
  • Contributing to and develop the University’s External communications strategies. Managing External communication activities, the University website, intranet, POS material and other External communication needs as required.
  • Giving updates on external activities to be up loaded on the university social sites to ensure they are fully updated to meet USIU’s publicity, marketing, fundraising and communication needs.
  • Overseeing production of news and feature stories, publicity materials, press releases, photographs, videos, and other strategic and targeted communications as required.
  • Plan, organize and direct Public Relations activities and events that enhance USIU’s relationship with various target audiences and enhance positive publicity.
  • Collating and analyzing media coverage.

External Relations Assistant

Job Purpose: To establish a robust coordination mechanism with USIU’s stakeholders to achieve overall effectiveness in fundraising and social investment programs.

Responsible for:
  • Advancing USIU CSR programs
  • Profiling and advancing IPA flagship projects and events
  • Promoting implementation and enforcement of the university fundraising policy across the university community
  • Supporting external communication with current and potential partners.
  • Identifying and researching opportunities in Fundraising and Grants.
  • Managing relevant records for partners, networks, donors, alumni and volunteers
  • Promoting knowledge management for IPA Division
  • Coordinating the Fundraising Readiness Assessment processes
  • Monitoring fundraising milestones and outputs
