Deputy Director, Stanford Steyer-Taylor Center for Energy Policy & Finance (3P4)


The Stanford Steyer-Taylor Center for Energy Policy and Finance (STCEPF) was established in January 2011 as a joint initiative between the Stanford Law School and the Graduate School of Business. The STCEPF mission is to develop and explore economically sensible policy and finance solutions that advance cleaner and more secure energy. The center’s strategic priorities are to: (1) design and execute a suite of research projects demonstrating how to enable an environmentally and economically secure energy future; (2) advance knowledge and discourse by publishing the results of this research in high-impact articles in both academic and popular media; (3) expand and support the unique intellectual and entrepreneurial talents of Stanford faculty and students committed to energy policy and finance; and (4) provide critical expertise to policymakers, financiers, investors and consumers on energy policy and finance proposals.
 
The Deputy Director for the STCEPF will be the chief administrator for the program, collaborating with and assisting the Executive Director in all Center activities. The Deputy Director is also responsible for working with the Faculty Research Director to further the research and teaching mission of the STCEPF.
 
Duties:
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, identify and develop the direction and goals for the center. This may include identifying themes and topics for research, academic symposia and other public presentations and seminars, and contacting speakers.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director lead the planning and execution of all programs for the STCEPF; work with the Program Support Group to manage all aspects of the events including participant travel, event logistics, and publicity and program materials.
  • Work with the Executive Director and Faculty Research Director on the research, placement, and editing of scholarly papers generated by STCEPF events.
  • Work with the Environmental Law Clinic to research, plan, and implement new energy law clinical programs.
  • With the Executive Director, develop ideas and plans for research. Execute research projects. Publish findings and reports based on this research.
  • Coordinate student-student and student-faculty partnerships on special research projects.
  • Working with the Law School Development team, conduct fund-raising activities with foundations and other private and public donors to raise resources for STCEPF programs. Research prospective donors.
  • Manage the budget for the STCEPF, including forecasting and reporting on all activities and financial issues from year to year.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required; M.B.A. or J.D., and experience in the energy sector strongly preferred.
  • Experience in program administration, budgeting, and event-organization are desirable, along with strong research and writing skills and an ability to work in a collaborative academic setting.
  • The ability to navigate complex academic organizations with diplomacy and tact is essential.
  • A writing sample to demonstrate excellence in writing should be available on request.
