The opportunity
 
We are looking for a Mine Services Operator, based at our bauxite operation, Weipa, to ensure correct operation of mine equipment and machinery in a safe and cost effective manner.
 
Located 900 km north-west of Cairns on the Gulf of Carpentaria, Weipa is owned and operated by Rio Tinto Alcan. Weipa offers a coastal community that is rich in geographical beauty and cultural heritage, which provides families with opportunities to participate in leisure activities and community events.

What the role entails
 
This position is a great opportunity for a self-motivated individual with a passion for working outdoors along with the ability to do physical work. Residentially based in Weipa (4 days on and 4 days off roster) and reporting to the Superintendent - Mine Services, you will be:
  • Implementing the weed spray program throughout the mine site
  • Operating various machinery and equipment on site associated with road works and earthworks tasks
  • Working in all areas of the mine
  • Inspecting site equipment and reporting maintenance requirements or breakdown issues
What you will need for this role
 
To succeed in this exciting and challenging role, you will have:
  • The ability to work in a team and commitment to safety
  • The capability to communicate effectively
  • A “C” class driver’s or a Heavy Rigid (HR) licence
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Focussed approach in mining
