• The SciDev.Net website www.scidev.net is the world’s leading source of reliable and authoritative news, views and analysis on information about science and technology for global development.

• We engage primarily with development professionals, policymakers, researchers, the media and the informed public.

• We are developing our capacity to commission and produce innovative multimedia content including audio slideshows, audio podcasts and video for our website, in order to add value to our pages and to communicate positive messages about our work. We aim to produce multimedia content that will engage our target audiences and lend itself to promotion through our social media channels.

• We are looking for a talented multimedia producer who can create high quality content across a range of platforms. Producing video and audio slideshows is a key part of this role and the role holder will be expected to manage the entire production process from start to finish and to work closely with contributors, often in a mentoring role.

Principle accountabilities

• To commission, produce and coordinate weekly multimedia content for SciDev.Net’s website and for our external partners and internal stakeholders.
• To attend events on SciDev.Net’s behalf, with a view to producing a range of high quality multimedia products. Some international travel may be required.
• To manage story concepts, scripting, storyboarding and to edit copy by content providers, while coordinating with other members of the editorial team.
• To manage SciDev.Net’s content archives and photo libraries.
• To undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required.

Jobholder requirements: 

Personal qualities

• You will have an appreciation and keen awareness of user/viewer experience, and what draws people in. We are often working with dense and technical subjects, so compelling storytelling and aesthetics matter in attracting audience, and keeping them engaged.
• You will have a solid sense of storytelling, for example, you will know how to craft a narrative story with a beginning, middle, and end and know how to translate this into a range of multimedia products especially podcasts and audio slideshows.
• You should be a creative thinker with the ability to generate original ideas.
• You will be someone who can work well with, and win the support of, key colleagues and stakeholders.
• You will have an eye for good visual design and composition. Photography skills would be an advantage.
• You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• You will have a good presentation voice and manner for audio and video output.
• You will be able to organise your daily schedule and manage multiple tasks in parallel, completing jobs to tight deadlines.
• You will pay close attention to detail and have a meticulous eye for identifying inconsistencies or inaccuracies.
• You will be prepared to share your expertise across our organisation.

Education and experience 

• Excellent working knowledge of digital equipment and the technical ability to record, edit and produce video/audio files for on-line use.
• A good working knowledge of Adobe Premiere and other Adobe Creative products (or Final Cut Pro).
• Experience with audio production.
• Experience working in a journalism environment.
• Experience of producing high quality multimedia content for websites (please provide URLs)
• Knowledge of emerging technologies.
• Experience of working with colleagues across different time zones and cultures.
• A keen interest in science and/or international development.
• Experience of living/working in the global south will be an advantage
