Quality Officer: Food, Feed and Veterinary Public Health

The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is a premier science institution that conducts research with partners, develops human capital and fosters innovation in support of the agricultural sector. It provides diagnostic,
laboratory, analytical, agricultural engineering services, post-harvest technology development, agrochemical
evaluation, consultation and advisory services, food processing technology services, as well as various
surveys and training interventions. Through its wider network of research institutes and experimental farms,
the ARC provides a strong scientific base and a broadly distributed technology transfer capacity to the
entire agricultural industry in South Africa.

The ARC-Onderstepoort Veterinary Institute (ARC-OVI) seeks to appoint
experienced and dynamic persons to the following positions at Onderstepoort,
Pretoria:

Quality Officer:
Food, Feed and Veterinary Public Health

Key performance areas:ʉۢ Implement, maintain and improve the Quality System, to ensure continued
accreditation to ISO 17025 • Prepare and revise action plans for the Bacteriology and Zoonotic Sections
• Demonstrate implementation of QMS during third party assessments and coordinate clearance of nonconformances during the assessment • Provide guidance to laboratories in the Bacteriology and Zoonotic
Sections on the requirements of the management system and ISO/IEC 17025 through consultation and
training • Ensure calibration and servicing of the equipment • Plan, coordinate and monitor internal audits,
inter-laboratory and proficiency testing • Schedule and take minutes of management review meetings
• Compile and analyse trends of customer complaints for all the laboratories.

Requirements: â€¢ A BSc Hons or BTech in a Biology Science field • 5 years’ working experience in
biological or veterinary science laboratories, of which 2 should have been at laboratory supervision level
• Quality Management training and experience in ISO Standard 17025 • Internal audit experience • Good
communication skills (written and verbal).

A competitive remuneration package will be congruent with the scope, responsibilities and the stature of the
position. Appointments will be subject to a 6-month probation period (for permanent positions only) and a
positive security clearance.
