Seven Dutch political parties founded the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) in 2000 in order to assist political parties in new and developing democracies and to deepen and sustain young political systems. Since its establishment in 2002, NIMD has supported over 150 political parties and democratic movements in more than 20 countries in Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, Asia and the South Caucasus. NIMD engages directly with political parties to strengthen their organisations and bring parties around the table to discuss and agree on national reform agendas. NIMD’s programmes are country owned and tailor-made. In line with international developments in political party assistance, NIMD aims to work in a more result-oriented way and to strengthen the evidence base of its programmes. To assist the NIMD management in reaching this goal, NIMD headquarters in The Hague is currently looking for a:
Communications Officer (m/f)

The Communications Officer is responsible for the gathering of knowledge and information from the NIMD programmes and transforming this into clear communication products for NIMD’s three main target groups: local partners, peer organisations and the general public. He/she is responsible for: the production of news articles and press releases; content on the website; and the production, editing and distribution of communication and knowledge products in order to deepen the knowledge on democratization within and outside NIMD.
Tasks
- Advising on the utilisation of NIMD knowledge and information products towards relevant stakeholders and making these products available;
- Organizing of public events, seminars and debates and reporting on them in order to enlarge the visibility of NIMD;
- Maintaining an (international) network of journalists and academics relevant to NIMD and its objectives;
- Managing the editing and production process of annual reports, brochures and other external communication products, as well as the final editing and lay-out of the (multi) annual plans;
- Writing, editing and distributing news articles and newsletters;
- Editing and managing all content on the NIMD website;
- Maintaining a network necessary for the development, production and distribution of the NIMD knowledge and information products;
- Preparing and producing practical knowledge and information products such as publications, audio and video materials;
- Management of all NIMD press and media contacts.
Profile
- A degree in Journalism or Communication or a similar education;
- Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English;
- Knowledge of Dutch, French and/or Spanish is an asset;
- Relevant academic background;
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant working experience in communication;
- Affinity with the political approach of NIMD’s programmes.

The Communications Officer will work under direct supervision of the Director of Programmes. NIMD offers competitive secondary employment conditions. The salary for this position is between € 36.000 and € 57.000. Less than 38 hours a week is not possible.
