MANAGER
Development and Outreach Department
(New York Office)

Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking highly-qualified applicants for the position of Manager in the Development and Outreach Department.  This position will report to the Director of the New York Committee.
Responsibilities:
1. Managing the production of fundraising, outreach and cultivation events in New York, including HRW's annual Voices for Justice dinner, Film Festival Benefit, researcher briefings, advocacy and cultivation events;
2. Managing fundraising and outreach for the Film Festival Benefit;
3. Cultivating, servicing, and soliciting a small portfolio of Committee Members;
4. Assisting the Director to identify, cultivate, service, and solicit individual donors, prospects and Committee members;
5. Managing various aspects of the New York Committee including Committee communication and an annual retreat;
6. Coordinating select initiatives and helping manage the New York Committee’s executive and sub-committees with these initiatives;
7. Creating agendas, preparing background materials, and conducting follow-up to meetings;
8. Managing communications with constituents via phone, mail and electronic media;
9. Coordinating membership support services for the New York office including mailings, gift tracking, gift processing and acknowledgments, using HRW's Raiser's Edge (RE) database;
10. Creating and tracking donor lists, fundraising, and expenses;
11. Coordinating public programs and outreach, forming relationships with partner organizations, and identifying new opportunities;
12. Advertising, recruiting, training and coordinating the work of fixed-term staff and interns;
13. Assisting with donor research and profiles and managing RE donor entry; and
14. Performing other responsibilities as may be required.
Qualifications
Education:  A bachelor’s degree is required.
Experience:  Minimum three to five years of fundraising experience is required as well as demonstrated experience with logistics, coordination and production of events.
Related Skills and Knowledge:
1. Experience coordinating events, preferably large-scale events, is required.
2. Ability to develop and implement project timelines and execute these timelines working in liaison with staff and external partners.
3. Creativity, initiative, follow-through and excellent organizational skills are required.
4. Excellent oral and written communications skills in English are required.
5. Ability to work with donors is required.
6. Strong interpersonal skills in order to work collaboratively within HRW as well as with external partners are required.
7. Demonstrated commitment to human rights and/or international issues and the capacity to master and represent the mission and programs of HRW is essential.
8. Strong technology skills, including experience with donor databases and knowledge of social media are highly desirable.
9. An entrepreneurial spirit and the discipline to work independently, but also the ability to function as a member of a development team is highly desirable.
