Head of the School of Law

The University of Surrey rose 4 places this year to 8th in The Guardian University Guide 2014 and ranked 12th in the 2014 joint Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide - up from 26th position in the Times and 21st in the Sunday Times last year.  Student satisfaction has also risen, with the University moving up to 9th place in the country in the influential National Student Survey.  Final year students rated themselves more satisfied than ever with their HE experience, with 92 per cent expressing satisfaction with the quality of their course.
The School of Law aspires to be a centre of legal research and study for both exceptional students and outstanding academics. With an ambitious strategy to drive outstanding research and teaching activity, the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law now wishes to appoint a Head of the School of Law to help deliver this vision and achieve future growth.
The role                                                                              
  • Provide the leadership necessary to achieve and maintain the quality of teaching, research and contribution to society consistent with the performance of a top UK law school.
  • With the Executive Dean and colleagues in the Faculty management team, make a significant contribution to the development of faculty strategy and policy.
  • Lead, motivate and inspire staff to achieve the School’s ambitious goals, growing the School and increasing its capacity by attracting top talent.             
The person
  • An established scholar in any area of Law, able to demonstrate a distinguished research profile and an international reputation.
  • Strategically strong and commercially aware, with proven strength in managing academic staff and the ability to provide motivational leadership at all levels.
  • Driven by the desire to develop the law school into one of the best in the country, underpinned by belief in the importance of cutting edge research and societally-relevant courses.
