Senior Program Manager-Emergency Response
Status: Permanent Full-time position
Reporting to the Director of Emergency Response, the Senior Program Manager manages and develops a portfolio of projects ensuring effective implementation of quality programming. This role supervises a small team.
The position is based in Toronto Canada with frequent travel to Plan field offices.
People Leadership:
• Manages work distribution across the team and assists team members to balance competing priorities
• Monitors work progress and provides regular feedback to team members
• Supervises, supports, coaches, mentors and develops the team to attain personal and professional goals
• Assists with the design and organization of team building activities and tools for increasing teamwork and collaboration
• Ensures good working relationships with Plan field offices
Program development
• Ensures new growth opportunities as part of project development/fundraising are well streamlined and leveraged within the Emergency response program
• Ensures positive relationship with donors and partners
• Keeps well informed and actively participates in discussions on issues of emergency response and international development, in particular those that relate to natural disasters, conflicts and other crisis within the human rights framework and trends in international aid funding
Program Management:
• Ensures effective implementation of quality programming and donor compliance including:
• Ensures timely and quality reporting to donors
• Organizes periodic evaluations of projects
• Works with Grants Accountants to review and oversee relevant budgets, and helps prepare financial reports for donors
• Helps formulate, review and revise country/ regional plans, as well as organizational/ programmatic strategies and plans
• Shares successes and program learning in appropriate forums
• Supports the Program department to increase its capacity for innovation, generation of new knowledge and knowledge sharing
• Organizes forums to share results of Plan’s work with donors, partners and experts
Skills/ Experience/ Qualifications
• Proven track record of strong people leadership in both project development and project management in humanatarian assistance programs.
• Experience leading a multifunctional team in a matrix environment
• Demonstrated understanding and experience of international Humanatarian issues.
• Ability to build and retain positive relationships with Plan field offices
• Self-driven, organized and results-oriented people leader
• Excellent information gathering, assessment and presentation skills
• Exceptional communication skills and demonstrated capacity to work effectively with others
• Exceptional report writing abilies
• Innovation and rights based programming
• Proven skills in results based management approaches
Requirements
• Post graduate degree in Humanitarian/development or other relevant discipline
• Minimum 7 years program experience in international humanitarian assistance; some of which should have been gained overseas
• Previous experience managing a team
• Bilingual capacity in English / French is an asset
• Senior experience managing international Humanitarian/development projects
• Familiarity, networking and working relationships with donors and partner organizations
• Demonstrated ability to review, synthesize information and produce appropriate reports
• Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point) and internet use
• A good knowledge of global Humanitarian/ development issues
• Able to work as part of a team and in a fast-paced environment.
