About SMEC Urban

SMEC Urban is the urban development consulting division of SMEC Australia employing more than 170 staff including civil engineers, surveyors, town planners, urban designers and master planners, landscape architects and project managers.  We provide integrated consulting services needed to plan, design, construct and manage projects from concept to completion.

The role 

With a minimum of 2 years of experience in Urban Planning, you will play a key role in undertaking and executing general town planning duties for projects including:
  • Preparation and co-ordination of planning permit applications
  • Planning scheme amendments
  • Strategic planning projects
  • Planning feasibility studies and other associated duties as directed by the Manager Planning and Urban Design.
With a track record of achievement in a similar role, you will have gained your experience in an engineering design consultancy and have a passion for building trusted relationships to drive positive change and win new work.
Suitable applicants will have/be:
  • Tertiary qualifications to satisfy the requirements for Corporate Membership with the Planning Institute of Australia, or other similar.
  • Understanding of urban planning concepts and the Victorian Planning Provisions.
  • Basic experience in community consultation.
  • Good understanding of strategic and statutory planning processes.
  • Basic experience in preparing planning permit applications.
