Position Summary
ABOUT THE SJAC
The Syria Justice and Accountability Centre (SJAC) is a non-profit, multilaterally-supported organization that envisions a Syria where people live in a state defined by justice, respect for human rights and rule of law. The SJAC is collecting, preserving and analysing information on human rights violations and other relevant data to contribute to and inform a transitional justice process for Syria. Employing an unbiased and non-partisan approach, the SJAC also builds and maintains close relationships and partnerships with Syrian individuals, organizations, communities and international actors working towards justice and accountability for all Syrians.
The SJAC is seeking to fill the following position for its headquarters based in The Hague. Right to work in Holland required; employer will not make provisions for work permit or other required documentation. Dutch citizen preferred. This position is available immediately.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The SJAC seeks a highly motivated, hands-on individual with a broad range of experience to drive forward and manage the financial and administrative activities of a start-up NGO based in The Hague. His/her services will be solicited on a full-time basis.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for all financial activities of the SJAC, including financial planning and reporting, budgeting, and cash flow management
  • Ensure compliance with Dutch standards and legislation and the requirements of international funders
  • Liaise with external parties in relation to statutory reporting/audits
  • Develop financial systems and procedures, including managing the process of selection and installation of accounting software
  • Maintain office operations, such as updating and ensuring staff compliance with organizational policies and procedures, supporting staff recruitment and orientation, manage office-related procurements, and other administrative duties to ensure an optimal work environment
  • Provide operational support to program staff
  • Supervise other administrative/finance staff as relevant
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of technical expertise in financial management or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Accounting/finance educational background and/or accounting qualification
  • Previous experience in financial management for NGOs or international organizations is preferred
  • Previous experience in start-up environments is a plus
  • Broad knowledge of organizational administration
  • Knowledge of local financial reporting requirements and reporting to a variety of local and international donors
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be skilled at handling multiple tasks and able to adhere to tight deadlines
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and initiative in a dynamic, start-up environment
  • Ability to liaise with multiple team members in a variety of geographic locations (e.g. US, Europe, Middle East)
  • Must be a team player and willing to contribute to other tasks as needed
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Fluency in English and Dutch required
