Finance Intern , International Rescue Committee

BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 22 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. Domestically, our 22 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.
SCOPE OF WORK: The Finance Intern will primarily work in partnership with, and provide support to, IRC’s Finance Manager and Finance Specialist. Essential responsibilities include accounting related functions such as data entry, filing, and maintaining finance records.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• File cash disbursements.
• Assist with check processing – data entry, making copies and distributing checks.
• Maintain and update preferred vendor list.
• Update and file contractor’s binder.
• Maintain and update check log.
• Other data entry and filing assignments as needed.
• This position reports to the Finance Manager and does not manage others.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Associates of Arts degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent work experience.
• Strong Microsoft Excel experience.
• Successful background in Finance and administrative work.
• Excellent communication and follow up skills- both verbal and written.
TIME COMMITMENT:
• Summer interns are required to work at least 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday, for the entire summer. Interns who can intern full-time (40 hours a week) are strongly preferred.
• Fall and Spring interns are required to work at least 15 hours per week, Monday through Friday, for a minimum of 12 weeks in the Fall and Spring
