Financial Literacy & Career Education AmeriCorps Associate, New York

The Americorps Financial Literacy & Career Education Associate will be responsible for delivery, expansion, and enhancement of educational classes and mentoring designed to ensure refugee and asylee clients' capacity for early self sufficiency and long term economic mobility and empowerment. The Associate will work closely with colleagues in Education & Learning, Case Management, Employment, Immigration, and Community Integration to ensure communication and effective, coordinated support. The Associate will also support job development activities through production of written materials and presentations that highlight the skills and drive of IRC clients and educate potential employers on the IRC's work and success.
Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate implementation of financial literacy, work readiness, and other career education/development classes, including assisting IRC staff in supervising instructors and curriculum development
  • Collaborate with interdepartmental colleagues to conduct outreach and communicate with client/students on a regular basis
  • Support job development efforts conducted by IRC NY's Economic Empowerment team to increase the number and quality of employment opportunities available to clients
  • Support client economic mobility and job placement through coordination of IRC's College & Career Readiness activities, including one-on-one mentoring and counseling, college and career visits and workshops
  • Develop, administer and track results of career education activities including pre and post tests
  • Maintain client files
  • Recruit, hire, and train volunteer instructors and mentors in coordination with Adult Education Coordinator and Volunteer & Communications Coordinator
  • Complete all required reporting on time and comply with all agency policies and protocols
Requirements:
  • Minimum of a Bachelors degree strongly preferred
  • Two years experience teaching adult English Language Learners and working with refugee and/or immigrant populations. TESOL certification or similar preferred.
  • Highly organized and self motivated.
  • Flexibility and comfort in a fast paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Comfortable interacting with individuals from a variety of cultural, linguistic, educational, and professional backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Second language proficiency in French, Arabic, Burmese, Nepali, or other relevant language desirable.

The annual living stipend for this position is $12,325.
Individual must be a U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien age 17 and older.
Members must serve full-time for one full year.
