Fundraising Assistant Traineeship Scope of work
Background
Wetlands International is a global, non-profit organisation dedicated solely to the work of wetlands conservation as a contribution to sustainable development. We aim for wetland conservation to maintain the key values of these areas: local livelihoods, climate regulation, water provision and biodiversity.
The organisation has a core staff of around 200 people in 18 offices worldwide. Wetlands International works with partners in government, NGO’s and the private sector and manages a large number of global level, multi-partner projects. Our work ranges from working at the grassroots level with community groups to advocacy at global conventions. The Ede office is the headquarters of the global organisation.
The Advocacy and Communication staff at our headquarters (5) plays a key role in outreach to support the implementation of our strategy and to brand the organisation to support partnership and resource development. Online outreach, including social media and our website system of a global site and sites for offices, is an increasingly crucial element in this.
Description: This trainee position performs duties equivalent to a Junior Fundraising Professional or Resource Development Assistant position. 
Duration: 6 months
Commitment: 3 days per week, 7.2 hours per day.
Supervisor: Resource Development Manager
Schedule (days): flexible, depending upon need and availability, as previously discussed with supervisor, but tentatively scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Purpose: Support the extension and diversification of Wetlands International’s funding base, and implementation of its fundraising and member/supporter strategies.
The trainee will be provided with a (rotating) desk space, and organisational email to use for the duration of the traineeship. A computer will be available for use on Fridays. It is advised that the trainee bring his/her own laptop on other days.
Deliverables:
  • Create donor prospect profiles / conduct donor prospecting web research on at least 30 European/Dutch private foundations
Estimated level of effort: 30%
  • Support the member & supporter development strategy. To be further defined. Could include:
    • Preparation of materials and information for events (GMM, World Wetlands Day) and online.
    • Donor prospect research on potential corporate sponsors, high net worth individuals
Estimated level of effort: 25%
  • Support from individuals (a specific action item of the member & supporter strategy):undertake research and support the analysis (return-on-investment) of funding from individual supporters:
    • Crowd-funding (international, US, UK)
    • Online donation options (and mechanisms for receiving funds)
    • Third party fundraising (via CAF, United Way, Global Green grants)
    • Legacy / planned giving in the Netherlands.

  • Database management for fundraising – inputting opportunity and donor information into PSA, Wetlands International’s project (and client) management database
Estimated level of effort: 20%
Previous non-profit experience with some thematic overlap with the work of Wetlands International, as well as some fundraising, communications, or proposal writing experience.
