JUNIOR BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
(Based in The Hague, The Netherlands)
SNV is a not-for-profit international development organization with long-term, local presence in 35 of the poorest countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Our team of local and international advisors work with local partners to equip communities, businesses and organisations with the tools, knowledge and connections they need to increase their incomes and gain access to basic services – empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and guide their own development across three sectors: Agriculture, Renewable Energy and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH).
SNV’s work is funded by a wide range of national and international donors. The global Business Development Unit coordinates and supports lead and prospect development throughout the organization.
Your Role
As member of the global Business Development Unit thee Junior Business Development Officer (Junior BD Officer) will support country and sector programs in getting enough resources in enabling SNV to meet its ambitious development targets.
We are looking for a young professional with the ambition to develop a career in international development with an entrepreneurial mind-set. You will be supporting SNV in tracking and identifying funding opportunities from institutional donors (bilateral and multilateral), foundations and private companies and providing operational and coordination support to the prospect teams to convert opportunities into winning proposals.
Main Responsibilities
  • Act as a point of contact for the SNV’s Business Development support desk to respond to both internal and external queries related to business development.
  • Maintain and update the business development systems and tools, such as the intranet site, BD Tool Kit, opportunity tracking system, and the various databases (Project Reference, Proposal Bank, Pipeline and Relationship Management Databases).
  • Gather market intelligence on donors, projects and partners, through desk-based research and support the coordination of global meetings and fact finding missions.
  • Support the Senior Business Development Officers to build, maintain and influence a network of (potential) donors and partners in relation to specific funding opportunities.
  • Ensure adequate information flows to key SNV staff and consultants with reference to both published & unpublished opportunities.
  • Support selected opportunities to deliver high quality concept notes, grant proposals, expressions of interest and tender proposals.
  • Support the country offices to improve uptake of systems, data capture and quality.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree, Masters’ degree preferred in related field (International Development, Business Administration, Marketing or other related areas);
  • Knowledge of the international development sector and familiar with trends among major players in the sector.
  • Relevant work experience in business development or marketing in an international development context is a plus;
  • Knowledge of or working experience in one of SNV’s focus sectors is a plus.
  • Strong verbal and very strong written communication skills as well as excellent presentation skills;
  • Our ideal candidate is articulate, ambitious, responsive, diligent and persistent, hard-working, energetic and eager for results;
  • Besides English, proficiency in French or Spanish would be a plus;
  • Must be willing to travel.
CONTRACT PERIOD: 1 year initially
DESIRED START DATE: As soon as possible
