PR and Communication Individual

The International Union of Wagon Keepers, UIP is looking for a PR and Communications individual.


The role focusses on developing and distributing all UIP communications, ensuring delivery of factual, timely, and accurate information to various stakeholder and policy groups. The person will work closely with the Manager European Affairs and the Secretary General in order to develop and promote good community relations. We are looking for an individual who can develop innovative ideas on how we can achieve this.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write press releases, position papers, drive press campaigns and plan communication strategies;
  • Prepare statements, presentations, talking points, speeches, materials and documents for use about key initiatives in a consistent format;
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with journalists;
  • Administer website and contribute to the content;
  • Manage social media and other relevant on-line tools;
  • Coordinate annual report and monthly newsletters;
  • Develop appropriate and original PR campaigns on limited budgets;
  • Develop systems and processes to effectively and proactively communicate on activities;
  • Prepare and organise events;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING

Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Mass communication or related field of study.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Advanced oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to distil large quantities of information into meaningful messages and interesting stories for diverse audiences;
  • Editing and creative skills;
  • Attention to detail, problem solving, organizational, & analytical skills;
  • Knowledge of system improvement models and data collection tools.

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS

  • Is flexible;
  • Has a verbal and written communication skill in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions;
  • Has the ability to work cooperatively with supervisors and co-workers;
  • Has the ability to perform responsibilities without the necessity of close supervision;
