SAFETY OFFICERS

ASSMANG Ltd - Manganese Division requires the services of the following individuals at their Black Rock Mine Operations, situated 80km northwest of Kuruman in the Northern Cape.
SAFETY OFFICERS
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Monitoring and reporting on compliance with applicable Health and Safety legislation
  • Carrying out inspections of working places and machinery as per regulations 2.17.1 of the MHSA on a schedule basis and making recommendations on deviations found during inspections
  • Ensuring that results of inspections are recorded and reported to the relevant persons
  • Facilitating and performing risk assessments
  • Monitoring the reporting of incidents and investigating incidents to determine root causes and appropriate remedial measures
  • Conducting scheduled audits to assess compliance with current Code of Practices, SOPs and managerial instructions
  • Monitoring and auditing contractors within your area of responsibility to ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety System and legal requirements (OHSAS 18001 and MHSA)
  • Implementing the required corrective measures and providing effective coaching to ensure improved compliance with Safety and Health System requirements
  • Attending SHE and other meetings as required
  • Identifying training needs and ensuring employees in your area of responsibility is properly trained to ensure safe execution of their work.
Minimum requirements:
  • Grade 12
  • COMSOC 1 & 2 and SAMTRAC (essential)
  • National Diploma in Safety Management will be advantageous
  • Red Seal or Blasting Certificate
  • Valid Code B/EB driver's licence
  • Computer literacy - MS Office
  • OHSAS 18001 training
  • Minimum of 5 years' mine operational environment with extensive exposure to Health and Safety experience
  • Conversant with the Mine Health and Safety Act (Act 29 of 1996) and other legislation applicable to a mining environment
  • Accident investigation experience
  • Report-writing and data reporting skills (essential)
  • Planning and organising skills
  • Contractor management (essential)
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to function on your own and as part of team
  • Strong interpersonal communications, tact, good judgement and analytical skills.
