Senior Trainer - Journalism and Production, Rangoon, Burma

BBC Media Action uses various forms of media and communications to tackle poverty and contribute to long-term change in some of the world’s poorest places. To achieve this, we partner with civil society, local media and governments to:

  • Produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences around key development issues.
  • Strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure.

Role Responsibility

The Senior Trainer will lead BBC Media Action’s capacity building with the Burma’s state broadcaster, MRTV (Myanmar Radio and Television). The postholder will build on the 2012 needs assessment and the successes and challenges of the previous year to further improve MRTV’s technical and editorial standards, particularly in the production of news and current affairs programming.

Your main focus will be to provide editorial and technical leadership to support development of MRTV’s news and current affairs programmes and design an appropriate training package for the state broadcaster’s newsroom staff.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate should have:

  • Substantial senior broadcast journalism experience, particularly in producing news and current affairs output on multiple platforms.
  • Experience providing training on journalism and production skills, particularly in developing countries.
  • Demonstrable advanced knowledge and understanding of BBC editorial values, and experience of training others in applying BBC editorial values.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication and influencing skills, including evidence of an ability to develop close and effective working relationships with persons from different cultural and editorial backgrounds.
