Overview
A training and development officer handles the learning and professional development of Bridge staff. Trainers equip staff with the knowledge, practical skills and motivation to carry out work-related tasks. Training officers either deliver the training themselves or arrange for a third party trainer to do so.
The IT Training Officer is specifically responsible for design and delivery of IT training; teaching individuals how to use and benefit from, ICT systems through practical examples, class-based programs and virtual training delivery based on the department needs. The role holder continuously leverages technology to build staff ICT skills capacity and is proactive in ensuring that they are fully aware of Bridge's future ICT needs and deployments so they can ensure that management and staff are fully prepared and planned. This role requires superb interpersonal skills with an emphasis on relationship building across departments coupled with a deep understanding of needs assessments and tailoring delivery to a variety of audiences.
Responsibilities
The role holder will work collaboratively within the IT Team to achieve the following:
  • Design and deliver IT training programmes - covering technical training such as process skills like project management; applications, for example SharePoint.
  • Upgrade user skills – train staff on desktop applications such as MS Office and company-specific applications.
  • Designing course materials and other documents such as handouts, manuals and exercises while evaluating the effectiveness of training programmes and learning outcomes.
  • Develop and manage training platforms for staff ICT up-skilling including group workshops, desk-based learning (floor-walking), self-service portal and virtual classes.
  • Communicate with staff regularly with regard to new and existing ICT products while creating and delivering a list of training modules available in-house or externally.
  • Work with management to assess and help with the ongoing, long-term improvement of employees' skills, enabling them to fulfill their potential within Bridge. The role holder is required to be strategic rather than reactive, assessing the skills and knowledge within Bridge and determining what training is needed to grow and retain these skills.
  • Work with line managers on employee development by maintaining appropriate records of learner development and resource allocation.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
  • A Degree from a recognized university with top marks in Computer Science or a related discipline
  • At least 5 years' IT work experience, 2 of which involve IT Training
  • Experience working within a fast-paced environment
  • A certificate in training from a recognized establishment would be an added advantage
Preferred Experience and Skills
Essential:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of MS Office, preferably at advanced level
  • Experience working and training on a variety of IT subjects and applications
  • Excellent Writing and oral communication skills
Desirable
  • Knowledge of Android technologies, Smart Phones, Nooks, LAN and Wi-Fi configurations
  • Hardware and Software troubleshooting skills
  • Good research skills, including ability to identify and propose solutions to issues/crisis
