The broad function of the Lead Application Engineer is to act as the responsible authority and interface with Sales and Commercial Operations for technical support involving all resources relative to the design, production, performance and emissions of GE gas turbines, steam turbines and/or generators during the proposal phase of a project. | |
The Lead Application Engineer (AE) nsure that all such commitments are made to optimize the resources of GE Power Generation. He/she will be assigned major proposals covering the product line that he/she is expected to manage with minimum direction. He/she shall also be responsible for identifying critical project areas when scope or schedule issues arise. Requests for assistance shall be made sufficiently early such that others are given adequate time to provide the necessary assistance. He/she is also expected to develop expertise in areas that support the Application Team. They shall keep the Manager –Applications Engineering aware of project or product issues. Assigned projects should be viewed as avenues for developing and enhancing expertise as well as the production of customer proposals that meet the customer requirements within the GE Power Generation capability and product planning guidelines. Other responsibilities include: - Review customer specifications and prepare Pegasus documents that define the GE product department scope (Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine or Generator) based upon the interpretation of the customer specification and the commercial strategy that has been defined to the Application Engineer. Bring experience and equipment/power plant understanding to the scope definition and project requirements. - Address all technical issues that will impact the ability of the GE supplied equipment to comply the customer/project requirements. Identify to management those technical issues that will have significant impact of GE Power Generation resources. Process Cost & Cycle Estimates to define scope, price and schedule impacts of all special, non-standard scope and options that are necessary to support the proposal. Provide in-depth, detailed comments and exceptions to the customer specifications to be included in the GE proposal document to the customer. Complete fill-in data, provide proposal outline drawings and one-line diagrams and obtain shipping commitments from Manufacturing and MSD Sourcing. Provide all inputs as required to meet the proposal schedule. - Where technical issues arise that must be addressed by a review and discussion by Engineering, those items are to be brought to the attention of the Engineering COE using the processes and forums recognized by the Engineering COE. - Pegasus inputs are completed such that Commercial Operations can price standard and non-standard options as determined by the customer specification and the bid strategy. - Provide all performance, emissions and acoustic expected values as the basis for guarantees as required by the customer’s specification, in accordance with GE Power Generation quoting policies. Advise Commercial Operations when management review and approval is required, such as for non-standard guarantees not covered by guarantee policies. - Provide technical direction for proposals based on agreements with Commercial Operations and interpretation of the project requirements. Achieve agreement with Commercial Operations, Projects, etc. concerning scope of supply and internal responsibility for same. - Prepare and update all documentation required for project release to Engineering for project Release Meetings. - Provide systems engineering function to assure that all equipment supplied by GE Power Generation product departments is properly sized for the intended application. - Provide post-bid technical support to customers via responses to customer questions and participating in customer bid clarification and negotiation meetings. - Initiate all required product and project technical requests to Engineering that require Engineering sign-off, using the tools appropriate for the information being requested. - Take an active role in the continuous improvement of processes, procedures and deliverables. | |
- BS Degree in Engineering - Expert technical knowledge of GT, ST, and Generator Accessories - Minimum of 10 years engineering experience with Power Plant equipment and/or Systems. | |
- Strong knowledge or experience in Commercial Operations, Application, and Requisition Processes from R Process through Proposal phase to Order Execution - Good knowledge of GE’s internal organizations, roles & responsibilities - Demonstrated leadership - Strong communication, influencing, and negotiation skills - Strong business acumen, and strategic thinking |
