Project Manager Basico
The mission of Ninos de Guatemala (NDG) is to build a better future for Guatemala. NDG aims to do this through providing disadvantaged children and adults with education and opportunities to empower themselves. To achieve this, NDG runs: 1) Primary schools Nuestro Futuro (in Ciudad Vieja) and El Porvenir (in San Lorenzo el Cubo); 2) the Fundraising and Development Department in Antigua; and 3) the NGO as the umbrella organization. Due to the success since NDG's founding in 2006, the organization is now expanding its activities to secondary education (Guatemalan 'Basico'), for which the NGO is looking for a new Project Manager starting in June 2014.

1. Job Description The main goal of the Project Manager is to develop NDG's secondary school (Basico) program. The project consists of two phases; the first is ensuring continued education for the first class graduating in 2014 from Nuestro Futuro primary school. The second phase is the set-up of a complete Basico during 2015, ready to open its doors in January 2016.

In both phases, the Project Manager is in charge of setting up a Basico project plan that includes: planning curriculum, managing permit application process with the Ministerio de Educacion, hiring staff, involving local community, setting up and managing a financial system and assuring high-quality education.

The Project Manager will be hired for the first phase of the project, with possible extension for the second phase. The Project Manager will report to the Education Manager and will be under advisement of the General Board of NDG. Educational knowledge with regards to NDG's educational standards and tradition is available in- house.

This position will be starting as soon as possible but 15th of June at the latest.

2. Responsibilities (phase 1)- Developing and managing NDG's new secondary school in the first phase and managing involved team members, including;
- Steering the project, relative to (1) overall strategy, (2) long-term goals and (3) culture, identity and values of NDG
- Supervising the project's operations, finances, and reports
- Overseeing construction in cooperation with the contractor
- Searching, selecting, and hiring staff for the first year of Basico in cooperation with the director of Nuestro Futuro, the Education Manager and/or General Board
- Ensuring approval of government curriculum through Ministerio de Educacion - Planning ahead for the second phase of the Basico
- Involving local community
- Including local authorities and institutions - stakeholder management
- Maintaining a professional culture and positive work atmosphere focused on teamwork and shared responsibilities
- Developing / stimulating the proactive attitude and learning of the staff
- University degree in management, business administration, international development studies, social sciences, or related
- Young professional with experience in the field of project management and planning;
- Experience in the field of international development in less developed countries and/or in the field of education;
- Preferred experience in Educational projects or institutions in Latin America;
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- An entrepreneurial mindset, willing to make a difference and willing to put a lot (of effort and of themselves) into the project.
- Adaptive management skills; intercultural, human oriented communication. Experience with managing cultural differences and cultural processes;
- Have a responsible and independent work attitude;
- Dedication to NDG's mission and oriented to its goals;
- Availability of at least six months for fulltime activities in Guatemala, starting no later than June 15th 2014;
- Fluent in Spanish.
- Good reading, writing and speaking English skills
- An adequate monthly compensation;
- Guidance and assistance with regards to local knowledge and international cooperation;
