Only half of households in Mozambique have access to clean, safe water and sadly over 9,000 children die every year from diarrhea caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation in Mozambique.

WaterAid, an international NGO, is looking for a Country Representative to play a vital role in our mission to transform lives with safe water, sanitation and hygiene in the world’s poorest communities.

Working within the Senior Management Team, the Country Representative (CR) will steer the direction of the Country Programme in Mozambique through the development and implementation of five year strategies to bring about transformational changes needed to achieve universal and sustainable WASH. The CR empowers staff and partners to influence and support public and private institutions to improve policies, financing and practices to deliver these aims. The role also contributes to the global leadership of WaterAid

To be successful, you’ll need to be an influencer, and strategic systems thinker with a clear vision on what needs to change, on what drives change and how change can be supported.  You will be highly experienced and a capable leader that is able to rally a highly capable team behind a common vision and purpose. Proven experience of heading a Country Programme/ Office is essential. You will have a sound knowledge of the key relevant development sectors, preferably the WASH sector or health, education and environment. You will understand the importance of sound financial management. You need to be a fluent Portugese speaker and need to have solid experience in working in Mozambique. Eligibility to work in the country, will be preferred.
