DIRECTOR, MELBOURNE SCHOOL OF GOVERNMENT

The Melbourne School of Government (MSoG) was established in March 2013 to support, profile, and extend the University's teaching and learning, research, and engagement capabilities in the fields of policy, public administration, and governance. By bringing together expertise from across the University and various disciplines including, but not limited to, economics, political science, international relations, development studies and law, the School seeks to unite policymakers, industry leaders and citizens through ideas that are both actionable and provide necessary solutions. Working across boundaries, it inspires and nurtures a future generation of leaders devoted to public service and committed to improving our world.

The University of Melbourne is seeking to appoint a Director, Melbourne School of Government to lead the academic and strategic mission of the School and drive its research, teaching and engagement agendas. The appointee will work closely with the Deans of partner faculties and the School’s External Advisory Group and will be responsible for the overall strategic direction and oversight of the School’s activities and operations. The Director will be the outward face of the School and establish partnerships and business relationships with government and industry partners. They will deliver on the academic vision of the School including setting a research agenda and driving a pervasive research-led culture; leading curriculum development and delivery of new programs of study, an Executive Education strategy and an outreach program.
The appointee will either be a Professor with a distinguished international reputation in research and publication and with significant experience in academic leadership as a Head of School/ Associate Dean OR a senior executive with an eminent and sustained record of peak level achievement in the public or government sectors and specialist expertise to match the breadth and depth of what is expected of professors of the University, including a graduate level degree in a relevant discipline.
Of critical importance will be a deep understanding of the role of government and a passion to inspire and nurture a future generation of leaders devoted to public service.
Demonstrated high level communication skills and the ability to promote and represent the Melbourne School of Government to government and industry at a senior level will be critical.
