As a WAE Administrative Clerk, you will have the opportunity to work in a range of different sections across the Embassy, providing emergency and regular secretarial/administrative support for those experiencing staffing shortages.
While your tasks will primarily consist of routine administrative work, your duties will vary and will also encompass assisting with special projects, supporting VIP visits and assisting special events such as July 4th.
As your work schedule will be irregular, the key to your success in this role will be a flexible attitude; you may be requested to work for a few hours or few weeks with an office, and/or early mornings, evenings or weekends – especially for VIP visits. We will need you to tap into your excellent customer care skills in order to develop strong working relationships with a variety of Embassy personnel. As you move between sections, your ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality and demonstrate good judgment will be essential.
Please note: This position requires a Top Secret clearance.

Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent academic qualification is required.
Prior Work Experience:
Administrative/secretarial work experience is required.
Language Proficiency:
Level IV written and spoken fluency in English is required.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of PCs, PC based software (MS Office, Access, Excel, Word and PowerPoint) plus E-mail and the internet is required. Basic understanding of the operations of U.S. Embassy, London is required. Knowledge of basic office procedures is required. Knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and required formats to recognize and correct such errors in correspondence, reports and telegrams is required. Knowledge of the programs of the post as they relate to the office management/support functions of the unit or section is required. Understanding of the importance of customer care and the principles of confidentiality is required.
Skills and Abilities:
Good typing skills are required. The ability to operate office equipment such as facsimiles, color printers and copiers is required. Ability to organize routine data and maintain established procedures is required. Ability to gather data and to draft to supervisor’s requirements is required. Ability to use judgment to analyze information and take appropriate actions (phone calls, prioritizing work, etc) is required. Very strong interpersonal and communication skills, together with good customer care skills are required. The ability to be extremely flexible and to be able to work under pressure in order to meet deadlines is required. The ability to work evenings, weekends, early mornings as needed is required. A positive attitude to changing priorities is required.
